Chief Systems Engineer, Winsford, Cheshire (UK)
This is an exciting opportunity for an innovative engineer with strong technical, communication and leadership skills to lead the engineering function of Marine Systems Technology (MST). Recently acquired by PaR Systems Inc, which provides a range of engineering systems for naval use, Marine Systems Technology (MST) successfully developed COMFIRE®, a non-combustible composite used in fireproof doors installation on the Royal Navy’s new Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers.
 
As Chief Systems Engineer, your primary responsibilities will be to develop custom systems and equipment offerings for the company’s key Marine industry customers, drawing upon the wide experience and intellectual property of both MST and it’s US parent, PaR Marine.
 
Your “hands on” role will lead a growing team of designers, working in conjunction with the marketing team, in the development of solutions from concept stage through to detail design and manufacturing. As Chief Systems Engineer, you will be empowered as the Technical Authority within the business, ensuring that all customer and regulatory obligations are met.
 
Responsibilities:

• Design and develop systems for project specific equipment applications
• Act as the technical design authority for developed marine systems.
• Perform classical stress analysis, center-of-gravity weight calculations, and load analysis and reactions.
• Perform calculations to determine powertrain and braking requirements.
• Analyze tolerance stack-ups.
• Implement design changes through formalized Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process.
• Review and disposition non-conforming material through formalized Non-Conformance Report (NCR) process.
• Review and specify appropriate materials for product bill-of-material (BOM) development, and release.
• Work with Engineering Director in USA  and  local Project Manager(s) in execution of projects and preparation of the technical sections of proposals.
• Lead and manage a small team of engineers and designers
• Manage schedule and budgets on the design of the product and the execution of the project.
• Implement continuous improvements on product/process designs.
• Support proposal development and presentations, as needed.
• Applications engineering.
• Compliance responsibilities for the engineering function with ISO9001, company procedures and also external regulatory project requirements  

• Total customer satisfaction through innovative compliant system designs.
• Continuing to build a world class engineering team in a fast growing company
• Product quality (as measured by specification obtainment and warranty costs).
• Meeting or exceeding budget and schedule targets.
• Conduct consistent with the PaR Corporate Values.

Chief Systems Engineer Job Requirements

Required experience, skills and background:
Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
• 7 years of design experience for heavy machinery or marine equipment.
• Working familiarity with Microsoft Project, Excel and Word.
• Understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic design, and weld symbology is preferred.
• Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Good working knowledge of various marine specs and manufacturing processes.
• Proficient in 2D Software: AutoCAD
• Good communicator, capable of presenting technical solutions to key customers

• Professional Engineer (PE) Certification.
• Experience in 3D software: SolidWorks
• Familiarity with electrical logic and associated controls is a definite plus.
• 5 or more years of experience in executing complex projects.
• Design experience in marine material handling;
