Director of Service Operations Job Description

Do you have demonstrable experience of designing and rolling out service strategies, and translating these into operational terms? Can you use your enthusiasm to stimulate your stakeholders and overcome resistance? We are looking for a highly motivated Director of Service Operations with outstanding interpersonal skills.

Your Department
Life Cycle Services is responsible for around 20% of Vanderlande’s total income and this share is growing fast. Service Operations is a central department located in Veghel, tasked with helping our organisation and its Customer Centres to execute their growth. This support consists of creating a service strategy, developing service tools and improving the maintenance of our products.The Director Service Operations is responsible for the Life-cycle Services execution and customer services of material handling solutions worldwide and has a dotted line to all service activities in the branches.

Service Operations is an internationally operating service organization for our customers in the Airports, Warehousing and Parcel business units. Service Operations consists of more than 600 employees (incl. contingent workers) who work together to make sure systems are available around the clock for our customers to use. In scope 143 mio sales (2017), 40 SBS sites in more than 20 different countries.You have 5 direct reports.

Your responsibilities
As Director of Service Operations you will expand the service activities of Vanderlande by launching new service sites  with clear added value to the market, and you will be responsible for supporting Customer Centers in the execution of services and implementing the service strategy. Create business opportunities.

Influence decision-making processes (change management). Building and maintaining relationships with key decision makers (both internally and at customer level) and negotiating skills are essential in that respect.

• Manages the execution of a high number of service contracts/ sites/ departments with a high organizational complexity on operational and commercial level
• Develops and pursues profitable concepts to achieve planned sales targets and profit levels for Airports and Warehousing & Parcel.
• Responsible for developing and executing a multiple year’s strategic service operation plan within the global service strategy.
• Manages group of > 300 FTE, performing a wide variety of interrelated multidisciplinary service activities.
• Develops profitable executive management relationships in the market and decision makers of the customers.
• Understanding the customer’s service business, processes and values, anticipate on this, with the aim to offer a spot-on service execution, which will exceed the current operations in the customer’s value chain.
• Develops new ways of execution the local service way of working, supply chains, tooling, etc. to generate more business and profitable growth.
• Engages in successful implementation of the global service strategy and is mature sparring partner for the decision makers Customer Centre Managing Directors/ board of directors.

Director of Service Operations Job Requirements

Your profile
As Director of Service Operations you can offer the following:

• A technical related Master’s degree and possibly also an international MBA
• > 15 years’ experience in a multidisciplinary, technical environment,
• Extensive and relevant experience of developing and expanding service activities, drawing up the service strategy and ensuring the associated international programme management. Your service background is industry related and focused on assets / materials / maintenance
• You are a people manager with a strong focus on team dynamics and change management
• Stakeholder management skills on all levels
• An excellent command of English as well as Dutch and preferably another foreign language
• Willing to travel 40-50%
