Major Project Buyer Job Description

As a Major Project Buyer, you will focus on projects related to complex Warehousing and Postal systems worldwide. Do you have the project management skills and procurement experience to make it happen?

Your department
The Procurement department is part of our Supply Chain Center Europe within our Global Supply Chain organization. The Supply Chain Center Europe (SSC EU) is responsible for the integrated supply of goods and services to projects. Smooth execution of projects is depending on a strong supply chain. Quality, capacity, short lead times and on time delivery are key as well as sharp pricing, high flexibility and strong commitment of suppliers.
For projects, the Procurement team is responsible for tactical and operational procurement. The team supports projects in all phases (sales, execution and service) and focusses - for VI and third party equipment and services - on first time right budgeting, early supplier allocation, identification of opportunities and mitigation of risks.

Your position
The Major Project Buyer acts as the procurement project leader on assigned major projects. You are part of the project team, yet you report to the Procurement department.
Responsibilities of the Major Project Buyer are:

  • Define, present and implement the Procurement Plan for assigned projects based on a solid analysis of among others the main contract, the needs of the project team and the category/sourcing strategy.
  • Identify and manage of risk and opportunities.
  • Select suppliers together with project manager, project leader engineering and category/sourcing managers.
  • Negotiate terms and conditions, and contract suppliers.
  • Manage project performance of contracted suppliers.
  • Manage on time and in full delivery according to project planning.
  • Acts as a mature sparring partner for the project manager on project procurement issues.
  • Acts as mature sparring partner for the procurement manager on procurement policy issues.
  • Manage and coach the junior project and operational buyers working on assigned projects.

Major Project Buyer Job Requirements

Your profile

  • A bachelor or master degree in a relevant field
  • At least 10 years of experience with global and/or project procurement
  • Experience with supply of turnkey projects
  • Project management skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Networking skills
  • Leadership skills
  • High commercial and contractual awareness
  • Willingness to travel worldwide, up to 20%.
