About Flanders Make
Towards a digitally transformed, sustainable and competitive industry
Flanders Make is a fast-growing research centre that performs research to support companies from various sectors in their sustainable innovation processes. From our establishments in Lommel, Leuven, Kortrijk and Sint-Truiden and labs within the 5 Flemish universities, we stimulate open innovation through excellent research.
Because of our unique position as a bridge between industry and research, our teams combine application and system proficiency with technological and scientific knowledge. Academic partners and more than 150 companies are part of the innovative circular ecosystem of Flanders Make.
Our strategy based on industrial needs and long-term trends ensures a close link with the industry and its challenges. With our programmed research, we create impact in companies.
Sustainability, climate and workability have a high priority in our research. We want to help companies in developing sustainable, green, smart and connected products and production systems, with a special focus on people and their interaction with machines.
As System Architect Advanced Manufacturing Machines, you develop production machines of the future. You investigate how to bring innovative production processes for Additive Manufacturing and High-Precision Machining to the Flemish industry.
Position:
Flanders’ Make is currently performing research into advanced production processes in two research programmes: 'Manufacturing High-Precision Components' and 'Additive Manufacturing for Serial Production'. To convert studied process innovations into industrial applications, new machine concepts are required. It is your job to conceive such innovative machine concepts and to develop them into functioning test set-ups. You will also demonstrate and validate the potential of process innovations on the set-ups that you developed.
We want to develop, among others, a completely new machine architecture for 3D-printing in serial production combined with robotised post-processing. We also want to develop a hybrid production platform in which multi-axial processing is integrated and combined with laser hardening.
Within Flanders Make, you will work together in the field of mechatronics, measuring technique, innovative control engineering, process engineering in additive manufacturing and high-precision production, surface finishing, software development for production support, robotics, vision systems, optics, laser technology, materials science, etc. In addition, you will deliberate with companies on how the innovations that you developed will be introduced into the industrial practice.
Responsibilities:
- You conceive and compare several machine concepts based on an analysis of the needs of the users and the requirements imposed by production processes.
- Together with a designer, you make a selected machine concept concrete and develop it into a functioning test set-up.
- You define the performances that are required for the underlying technological research into the production process.
- Together with experts from several technological domains, you conduct research into process innovations and you manage the technological interaction between these experts.
- You monitor the impact of new insights from underlying research activities on the final machine concept, both their opportunities and risks.
- You integrate process innovations on the operational test set-up and prove their proper performance by executing a test plan (or by having such test plan executed).
- You ensure the transfer of knowledge to companies through the implementation of the developed technology on their machines.
Profile
- Master in Engineering in a relevant domain;
- Track record of 8 years in research and design of mechatronic systems;
- Experience in the cooperation between different production processes;
- A broad technological perspective.
You are
· Passionate about research and new technologies;
· Innovative and able to generate inspiring new concepts and you can translate them in new machines;
· A team player and good communicator who can build sustainable relationships.
Offer
· Flanders Make gives you the opportunity to develop yourself in the network of top industry and universities and research institutes;
· An open-minded, flexible and challenging working environment;
· A warm atmosphere and top colleagues;
· An attractive salary with fringe benefits.
