Play a key role in optimizing the capability and efficiency of an important production plant

Our Specialty Chemicals (SC) Business Area (BA) comprises our globally renowned Industrial Chemicals and Functional Chemicals capabilities and portfolios. Within SC, the sBU Performance Additives produces CMC In Arnhem and Novara (Italy). CMC is a versatile product that is applied in diverse markets worldwide, varying from food and pharmaceuticals to oil drilling.

Process Engineer

Your core purpose in this role is to sustain production by structurally solving technological problems. You also define and lead projects that improve process safety, product quality, plant output, production cost and environmental impact. The production process is complex, comprising both batch wise and continuously operated sections. A large part of downstream processing consists of solid material handling. Due to the hazardous nature of the materials used, the site falls within the ‘BRZO regime’. The plant is certified regarding quality and environmental management, labor safety and food safety. You will be part of a multinational and multicultural organization that is committed to your personal and professional development.

Responsibilities and deliverables
Within this context you are responsible for a wide range of activities, developing yourself acting as a knowledge gatekeeper for the complete CMC production process. You solve production problems and optimize product recipes and plant settings, as well as leading their implementation in the production plant.

You identify improvement opportunities in both processes and procedures, preparing project proposals and implementing quick wins. During implementation of changes, you act as a lead for commissioning and start-up activities and for training plant personnel. Furthermore, you define and coordinate pilot plant experiments and plant trials, and evaluate their results. 

Another important role of the Process Engineer is to advise and provide input regarding compliance with both corporate standards and legislation. As such you will be involved in conducting risk analyses, hazard studies and FMEA.

Candidate profile
To apply for this position you must be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

• MSc in Chemical Engineering or equivalent;
• Good technical knowledge and an interest in L6S / continuous improvement;
• Able to work autonomously;
• Able to apply a powerful combination of theory and pragmatism to generate and implement solutions;
• Effectively influence and convince relevant stakeholders;
• Fluency in both Dutch and English is required.
