Component Project Engineer Job Description
In addition to this the candidate will also have the ability to manage multiple tasks and communicate effectively at all levels, including senior management is a must.
Position Responsibilities:
- The experience will have ideally have been gained during time spent within an OEM or Tier 1 supplier environment.
- Responsible for Cam Drive & VCT system component design and release.
- Development of system components, ensuring conformance to well established design rules and SDS targets. Ensure components conform to all design, legal, functional and durability requirements.
- Agree and define requirements & targets with regard to quality, function, cost, timing, weight, and durability. Work with component suppliers to ensure delivery to target and in line with program gateways.
- Drive component supplier teams to ensure part conformity through existing Ford processes and develop DV plans to ensure product quality.
- Drive “Team of Four” meetings for all sub-systems with Purchase, Finance and Cost-Estimating Departments. Ensure that all program, commodity and design objectives are fulfilled and that all design changes are reviewed, approved, and documented.
- Manage system interfaces with all affected CPMT groups, to ensure continued compatibility with other systems and overall system performance. Develop design to ensure manufacturing and service operations can be achieved at maximum reliability and at minimum cost.
- Develop and manage quality documentation to ensure system robustness.
- Develop and execute Design Verification Plans (DVP). Ensure timely validation and sign-off for subsystem content - ensuring adequate specifications are defined and verification is conducted.
- Support prototype builds functional engine prototype sign-off. Manage product changes and containment of all open issues during all build phases.
- Ensure the system complies with legal, safety, program, and design intent.
- Evaluate and implement TVM proposals with TVM team and supplier.
- Resolve OPD quality issues with PVT team including white alert investigations and QSFs.
- Establish verify and implement corrective actions and progress actions to prevent the recurrence of these quality concerns.
In addition, the successful candidate will be working as part of a Global Engine Engineering team, delivering Cam Drive, VCT and Vacuum Pump components to all engines – responsibilities in this broader scope to include:
- Work closely with and support the Component Technical Specialists to deliver programs that are aligned to Global Engineering Requirements
- Support the Component Supervisor in delivery of the Engine program metrics by each required gateway.
- Work within the wider component engineering team to support cross program core engineering discussions, TVM reviews and competitor evaluation as required.
- Work with Component Supervisor and component team to maintain consistent cross-program delivery on all programs, all components.
Desired skill base / experience: The ideal candidate should have strong technical engineering communication skills and be able to work both closely within a team and independent of detailed supervision as required.
- Design, development and production launch experience of Belt in Oil (BIO or ‘Wet Belt’) timing drive systems.
- Demonstrable understanding of methodology for controlling drive system resonance, and optimisation of the system.
- Design, development and production launch experience of Oil Pressure Actuated (OPA) VCT systems, preferably with central oil feed and control.
- Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Ford WERS releasing system.
- Experience / aptitude demonstrated in specification, management and delivery of full component system DV Plans.
- Strong working knowledge and experience of FMEA process and relevant software tools.
