Studio Engineer Job Description

Position Description:
As Studio Engineer you will be expected to work with guidance from the vehicle architect and Lead studio engineer and provide solutions to engineering and studio based issues.

The studio engineer will be required to check studio released surfaces to engineering and legal criteria then release data correctly within the data filing system. They will be required to track releases and provide status reports, attend styling and engineering meetings and be the focal point of engineering information to the studio on a specific project, for example a new vehicle interior or exterior. The studio engineer is expected to deliver specific studies solving legal and design issues these must be presented and delivered to the wider design community. It will then be the responsibility of the studio engineer to make sure their direction is followed and not misunderstood.
 
Responsibilities:

  • To chair feasibility meetings tracking engineering and studio related issues.
  • You will be expected to support the design studio from sketch phase through clay development to surface release.
  • To provide solutions to engineering problems for both production and possible show vehicles using CATIA and ergonomic bucks as mediums to solve issues.
  • Hold appropriate meetings to facilitate efficient vehicle design.
  • To liaise with various function areas to obtain the correct content for these studies to ensure that that they are valid and integrated, covering any legal requirements.
  • To understand the roles of the DMU engineer and package engineers and work very closely with them.
  • To support the design studio from sketch phase through clay development to surface release.
  • To provide solutions to engineering problems for both production and possible show vehicles using CATIA and ergonomic bucks as mediums to solve issues.
  • To chair appropriate meetings to facilitate efficient vehicle design.
  • Support designers who are using CAS, clay or Alias.
 
 
 
Requirements:
  • Candidate will need good Automotive knowledge and to be prepared to look at new designs and find possible solutions to engineering and design issues.
  • Engineering degree is required for this role.
  • Must have a high level of competency with Catia V5 able to design and manipulate models well, the ability to use xl, word, email, power point and previous use of a CAD file management system.
  • Previous experience in the automotive industry.
  • Experience working on full vehicle design from concept to production.
  • The ability to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of the vehicle packaging role and the DMU engineering role at all stages of a project and have the ability to guide less experienced members of the team Will need the ability to create solutions from blank page with minimal guidance
