Space Applications Services performs space system and software engineering for the European Space Agency, National Space Agencies and the space industry. We are involved in international unmanned and manned spacecraft programmes. We require staff, wishing to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position:

Tasks and Responsibilities
The International Space Station (ISS) comprises pressurized modules for accommodating payloads as well as external, unpressurised payload accommodation. The European Space Agency (ESA) has overall responsibility to ensure that the payload and experiment operations meet the scientific users needs. The work will be centred at the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) at Noordwijk, The Netherlands and will be performed in a demanding and dynamic international environment.
The work will include.
- Processing the inputs regarding scientific quality, technical feasibility and resource availability into one experimental utilisation plan for the various ESA experimental platforms that reflects the agreed scientific priorities;
- Coordinating with the other Space Station Partners on overall strategic / tactical experiment planning, preparation and resource allocation;
- Ensuring that science objectives are properly implemented during experimental hardware design and development, by interfacing regularly with the Payloads and Platforms Division;
- Interfacing with scientific institutes, USOC’s, industries on experiment preparation status;
- Organising regular meetings between science teams, ESA science, ESA hardware developer and ESA integration representatives (Investigators Working Groups);
- Book-keeping of the consolidated scientific requirements during integration and flight execution phases, by interfacing regularly with the Integration and Operations Division;
- Monitoring on-console activities during the in-flight execution phase to properly assess the progress of the on-going experimental investigations, and advising the Head of the Science and Applications Division (HME-GA) in his/her role of ESA Mission Scientist;
- Coordinating the collection of science post-flight reports;
- Supporting reporting to ESA’s Advisory Bodies and Programme Board as appropriate.

- Applicants should have a PhD or Engineering degree in one of the Physical or Life sciences disciplines, a comprehensive scientific background in a relevant discipline (Biology, Medicine, Biology, Physics, Chemistry) coupled with a pro-active approach to support teams of scientists in the implementation of their experimental projects.
- Experience in space engineering or space operations and in microgravity research and/or experimentation would be an asset as will bility to successfully interface with scientists, industrialists and programme responsibles and an excellent command of spoken and written English.
