This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide.
EUMETSAT also operates several Copernicus missions on behalf of the European Union and provide data services to the Copernicus marine and atmospheric services and their users.
As an intergovernmental European Organisation, EUMETSAT has 30 Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the United Kingdom.)
EUMETSAT is now inviting well qualified candidates from its Member States to apply for the following post:
Can you utilise your expertise to support the ground segment system engineering and development of EUMETSAT’s satellite system development programs?
EUMETSAT is the European operational satellite agency for monitoring weather, climate and the environment, pulling together the resources of 30 Member States. We observe the atmosphere and ocean, and land surfaces from Space using a system of satellites 365 days a year offering images and data to provide insights into weather situations, environmental hazards and climate change. Our work helps users worldwide to monitor changes in these to protect lives, lifestyles and properties. Developing the next generation of satellites, we look to shape our future.
We are recruiting for a Ground Segment Systems Engineer to be based within our System Engineering and Projects Division (SEP). In this role you will be responsible for ground segment system engineering and architectural detailed design support to various EUMETSAT satellite system development programmes (Meteosat-Third Generation, EPS-Second Generation and Jason-CS), and other ground segment projects, including participation in the assembly and integration testing (AIT) and verification and validation (V&V) of complex ground segments.
As an expert in ground segment system engineering your role will be pivotal in specifying, defining and consolidating ground segment requirements and in deciding how these can best be delivered. You will be relied upon for your expertise and will be asked to contribute to architectural and detailed design activities. You will further support the definition and management of ground segment interfaces. Technical budgets will form an essential part of your role and you will be required to update records and design justification documents as you go. You will be involved in the technical analysis of changes to help drive our organisation forward, looking at their likely impact on systems. You will also be required to support AIT and V&V testing of complex ground segments e.g. for Meteosat-Third Generation, EUMETSAT Polar System of Second-Generation and Jason-CS.
Alongside a university degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline you will need to demonstrate the following skills and experience:
· experience in ground segment system engineering following well-established system engineering processes covering the full development and maintenance lifecycle, and relevant technical standards, tools and methodologies (e.g. ECSS, model based systems engineer [MBSE])
· experience of managing requirements from the definition phase through the maintenance, traceability, verification and validation stages using formal methods and tools (e.g. DOORS)
· experience in the area of Ground Segment (V&V) and/or AIT activities
· sound experience in the technical coordination of teams and projects
· strengths in analysis, synthesis and presentation of complex issues in a structured manner
· outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with proven ability to apply these within a team environment in a matrix organisation.
We offer attractive employment conditions, with a competitive salary, comprehensive health and social welfare provision, and extensive relocation assistance, if applicable.
