EUMETSAT is the European operational satellite agency for monitoring weather, climate and the environment. We observe the atmosphere, ocean and land surfaces from Space using a system of satellites, 365 days a year, offering images and data to provide insights into weather situations, environmental hazards and climate change. Our work helps users worldwide to monitor changes in these to protect lives, lifestyles and properties. Developing the next generation of satellites, we look to shape our future including the way we receive, process and disseminate data and products to our users. These activities have generated an opportunity for a Data Services Operations Engineer to join our Additional Data Services Team.
In this role you will conduct and coordinate the Data Services routine operations and support the future evolution of the EUMETSAT Additional Data Services systems, using data originating from our partners and service providers. You will also co-ordinate the operations of EUMETSAT’s network of S/L-Band Regional Services receiving stations (known as EARS). You will be involved with the planning and will coordinate the day-to-day activities of EARS and Additional Data Services with the EUMETSAT operations team. Additionally you will analyse the operations and performance of the systems, raising anomaly reports and proposing solutions and evolutions where necessary. Your role will also include the preparation of training material and conducting training for the engineers, analysts and controllers teams.
Along with a University degree in Telecommunications, Physics, Electronics or Software Engineering (or equivalent), you should be able to demonstrate experience in operational planning and monitoring of near real time data services, preferably in a high-availability environment (24x7); development and validation of operational ground segment and associated operations procedures; and a understanding of ground segment operations requirements.
Working knowledge and experience of the UNIX operating system and first level support in satellite-based and terrestrial data distribution systems would be considered an advantage.
