It employs some 40,000 employees, generating revenues of approximately €14 billion per year.
The Mechanical Engineering Internship is based in the Antenna Department which provides complete antenna solutions for all Airbus commercial satellite programmes. Almost every antenna system design is unique, due to the different coverage requirements and frequency plans of the project customers, and the different orbital positions of the satellites.
The Antenna Department is involved in the entire life of the satellite project, from negotiation of customer requirements, through design, manufacture and ground test of a bespoke antenna product, through to support of in-orbit testing. Spacecraft antennas operate in a very severe environment including extreme temperature variations in orbit, deep vacuum, and an extreme vibration environment during launch.
To offer the best possible performance the designs must offer very high levels of dimensional stability and the lowest possible mass. The mechanical design of antenna hardware is therefore highly challenging, requiring careful selection of materials, and balancing of all the different requirements.
The Antenna Department has a very active R&D programme aimed at constantly developing new products and design solutions through the application of new technologies.
You will support a qualified engineer in the design of a spacecraft antenna system, by performing some of the following tasks:
