Introduction:
Mechanical Designer in the Experimental Physics Department (EP), Detector Technology Group (DT), Engineering Office section (DT-EO)

Functions:
As mechanical designer in the EP-DT-EO section, you will be assigned to the Experimental Physics Department, DT Group , and join the Engineering Office section which is in charge of designing detector components and providing technical support to physics experiments.

Your main functions will include:

• Designing and integrating mechanical elements, systems and infrastructures for high-energy physics detectors.
• Performing assembly and installation studies.
• Developing associated tooling and procedures.
• Performing some structural verifications by analytical and Finite Element methods, according to relevant standards and code specifications.
• Preparing drawings for specifications and manufacturing folders in compliance with relevant drafting standards and quality assurance plans.
• Following-up procurement with external suppliers including contribution to market surveys and invitations to tender.
• Following-up production, acceptance, assembly and installation of components, materials and tools as well as the documentation of the processes.

Mechanical Designer Job Requirements

The experience required for this post is:

• Relevant experience in a mechanical design office.
• Proven experience in working with 3D parametric computer-aided design tools, preferably with CATIA V5 and Smarteam software.
• Experience in the design and fabrication of particle detector components and of composite structures (glass and carbon fiber reinforced materials) would be a distinct advantage.

• Design of mechanical systems: mechanical systems integration, including electronics, cooling and services.
• 3D & 2D technical drawing: hands-on working experience with Dassault Systèmes Catia V5 CAD package, Smarteam; ISO standards for dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Knowledge of metallic materials properties: ability to analyze and solve basic mechanical engineering problems using strength of materials and materials selection principles.
• Definition of manufacturing method, process, preparation, planning, drawing, and control: machining, forming, assembly techniques (e.g. gluing, welding, brazing).
• Library and documentation management: ability to draft technical reports and documentation.

• Spoken and written English or French: willingness to learn the other language.
• Ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations in at least one of the two languages.
