Electromechanical Technician (Detector Development) Job Description
Functions:
As an electro-mechanical technician in the Detector Development Section, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of equipment and infrastructure in service and research facilities for detector development and construction, and contribute to detector characterization, qualification and construction activities.
You will:
- Ensure the operation, maintenance and upgrade of all electro-mechanical equipment, cooling and air handling systems in the EP Departmental Silicon Facility and the Solid State Detector laboratory. Further responsibilities will comprise safety and installation supervisory roles and might comprise the maintenance of simple IT systems (e.g. bench test controls).
- Participate in the conception, design and building of laboratory bench tests, jigs and testing fixtures for the characterization of silicon strip and pixel sensors.
- Take care of the equipment inventory, lab supplies and equipment ordering and the lab physical plant and services maintenance.
- Contribute to the service provided in the SSD and DSF facilities in communicating with clients, performing measurements and supervising clients using facility equipment or infrastructure.
- Become safety responsible and installation supervisor of the SSD and DSF installations producing safety documentation like safety files.
- Take part in detector construction and infrastructure projects in the group.
Electromechanical Technician (Detector Development) Job Requirements
The experience required for this post is:
- Demonstrated experience in electro-mechanical systems in an industrial or a research environment.
- Demonstrated experience in design and machining of mechanical parts; precision assembly and construction would be an advantage.
- Experience as work place safety officer or other safety roles would be an advantage.
- Experience in clean room operation or management would be an advantage.
- Hands-on experience with CAD systems like CATIA or similar technical drawing tools.
- Knowledge of laboratory bench-test systems for electrical or quality assurance testing, and the design, installation and/or maintenance of electronic systems will be considered an asset.
The technical competencies required for this post are:- Electro-mechanical design: construction and testing including maintenance and operation.
- Installation and dismantling of electro-mechanical equipment.
- Technical infrastructure operation.
- 3D and 2D technical drawing.
- Installation, maintenance and operation of control systems: and/or use data acquisition and treatment software (e.g. labview, device drivers).
The language competencies required are:- Spoken and written English or French: ability to draw up technical texts in one of the two languages, as well as ability to understand and speak the other language in professional contexts is required.
- Good knowledge of both languages would be an asset.
