Software Engineer Job Description

We are currently seeking to recruit a:

Software Engineer 
Time-limited position (3 years maximum)
ref. COD/ACU
  
The ESRF has started an ambitious modernization program named "Extremely Brilliant Source " (EBS). It will replace the existing storage ring by a brand new one with challenging characteristics. The accelerator control system is an object-oriented distributed control system developed upon a software framework called TANGO written in C++, Java and Python. The EBS requires a large number of new equipments to be integrated into the accelerator control system.  

You will join a team of 10 software developers, the Accelerator Control Unit (ACU). You will contribute to the development, and will be in charge of the test, the deployment and the commissioning of the software necessary to control the new equipments of the EBS. 

Your missions will be the following: 

• Complete the development of an archiving database based on Cassandra NoSql database 
• Assist in the developing of software for controlling new equipment in C++ and Java 
• Improve software engineering tools (repositories, continuous integration, packaging...)
• Manage the early testing of software on simulators and or equipment prototypes
• Coordinate the deployment and the commissioning of the software when the equipment is installed and participate in the commissioning

Software Engineer Job Requirements

• Higher university degree (Masters, MSc, Diplom, Diploma, Ingenieria Superior, Licenciatura, Laurea or equivalent) in Computing Science, Software Engineering or related areas
• 7 to 15 years of professional experience in the field of distributed control systems
• Strong skills in object oriented software architecture and large distributed systems is required
• Experience in software development in C++, Java and/or Python is mandatory
• Experience in software management techniques, quality assurance, open source code projects, git, unit testing, packaging, deployment is required
• This position requires frequent interactions with people of different skills (physicists, equipments or electronics specialists), therefore good communication skills are fundamental
• Proficient in English (working language at the ESRF); knowledge of French an asset.
