Satellite Operations Engineer on Low Earth Orbit Job Description
The position is permanent and full-time and fully located on customer side at EUMETSAT, Darmstadt,
Germany. Submission deadline for applicants is 31th of October. The expected start date is soon
thereafter.
Responsibilities/Duties:
The tasks of the Key person typically include: Support to the commissioning and routine operations of Sentinel 3A, and preparing for Sentinel-3B comprising:
- Provision of operational expertise platform subsystems and/or payload instruments and/or on-board software management, satellite simulator and ground segment operations interfaces;
- Maintain the corresponding operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures releases in a configuration controlled environment;
- Perform trending and performance analysis on the corresponding subsystems and instruments, including definition and possibly prototyping of additional analysis checks where necessary;
- Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close co-operation with the Post Launch Support Office (PLSO) in ESTEC and space industry;
- Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystems/instruments;
- Participation in the satellite on-call support rota;
- Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces. Support to the system and operations preparation of sentinel-3 C and D satellites
- Provide inputs and I or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts;
- Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals;
- Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites. Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites
- Provide operations preparation support as required to the Sentinel-6 development.

Qualifications/Experience
- Satellite operations engineer with experience on Low Earth Orbit (LEO), 3- axis stabilised spacecraft and experience in SCOS 2K and MOIS
Essential Skills- Fluency in English
- Experience of at least 2 years of Spacecraft Operations on Low Earth Orbit (LEO), 3- axis stabilised spacecraft with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine operations phases;
- Experience of at least 1 year of SCOS2000 mission control system and use of the MOIS operations preparation tool;
- Demonstrated experience in satellite performance monitoring and reporting aspects including anomaly analysis and solving in liaison with satellite industry, procedure change control and configuration management processes;
- Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, on-board software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities.
Desirable Skills- Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements;
- Familiarity with On-Board Control Procedure and On-Board Position Scheduler concepts;
- Familiarity with the ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard, customisation and usage;
- Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures;
- Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB;
- File parsing languages such as PERL, A WK;
- Use of VBA for development of ad-hoc tools in MS Office applications
