At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter, the fundamental particles. The particles are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.
Take the responsibility for the quality assurance of the SCADA developments based on WinCC Open Architecture (OA) within the SDS Section;
Develop, consolidate and monitor a test infrastructure, and ensure its smooth running to provide service to the section and to other CERN teams;
Drive adoption of best practices in code quality, testing, and maintainability;
Provide feedback to code owners and support them in addressing issues identified;
Write, debug and test software for control systems;
As part of a small support team, take an active role in the support effort to CERN users of Industrial Control Systems, in particular for WinCC Open Architecture (OA) and the related frameworks;
Keep abreast of the latest developments in modern software technologies, evaluate how they can be applied to industrial controls at CERN and make proposals on their potential integration to improve existing systems and services;
Take an active role in the lead, planning and management of the development of industrial control tools and applications in all of CERN domains (i.e. experiments, accelerators and technical infrastructure).
Experience required:
Demonstrated experience in software engineering practices (e.g. configuration management, user requirements capture), especially in quality assurance;
Demonstrated experience in the use of tools and infrastructure for software testing;
Demonstrated experience in development for large software projects;
Technical competencies required:
Testing: of systems & software application developments;
Design of automated test systems;
Programming/Software development: C++, C, Python, Perl or any in relevant scripting languages;
Application support;
Use of database software packages: such as Oracle.

These functions require:
Regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays and public holidays.
Work in radiation areas.
Interventions in underground installations.
Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.

Master's Degree in the field of computer science, electronics/telecommunications engineering, or equivalent.
