Following a recent restructure in which the focus of the Packaging Development Team shifted from implementation to front end innovation, the position of Packaging Developer has become available in the Packaging Development Team. In this position, you will be responsible for identifying and developing packaging solutions with reference to Mars Food’s global business, customer and consumer needs, as well as quality, cost and timing constraints. You are familiar with consumer closeness and consumer research techniques and will use these to develop new ideas through iterative prototyping, going on to design and develop new concepts that you execute from idea to manufacturing start-up. Evaluation of packaging materials, equipment and manufacturing processes for safety, quality and cost-effectiveness is another important part of your responsibilities. Furthermore, you develop and maintain packaging specifications and other related systems.
In participating in multi-disciplinary Activity Task Group meetings, you will take on a technical leadership role where necessary, liaising with other teams and members about the packaging development process, from brief through to development and implementation. You will build and maintain a strong internal and external network, working closely with internal groups and departments to ensure the successful completion and delivery of projects, and bringing in new information from external events and contacts such as suppliers, external packaging organisations and institutes, as well as cross-segment networks.
Your present colleagues would describe you as creative, results-driven, innovative and customer-focused. After obtaining your academic Bachelor or Master’s Degree in Packaging Science, Materials or Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering or similar, you’ve worked for at least two years in a technical field, ideally closely related to packaging. You’ve demonstrated your competence in problem-solving using iterative prototyping, and you possess excellent project management and conflict management skills and the ability to work in a deadline-driven environment with cross-functional teams. With your networking skills, you build strong professional internal and external networks that enable you to stay on top of the latest developments in packaging science and technology, and you are committed to personal learning and professional development. You possess skills and experience in stakeholder management and influencing without authority. You are fluent in written and spoken English and are willing to travel 20% of the time.
