Mechanical Engineer Job Description
As Mechanical Engineer and member of the Technical Coordination core team, you will :
- Work efficiently with all stakeholders - detector experts, members of the collaboration, technical support teams from CERN and collaborating institutes.
- Assist the collaboration with mechanical analysis of their sub detectors as part of the LHCb experiment and participate actively in the design and integration phase of new equipment and structures.
- Work closely with the project engineer and designer on the integration of detectors and their services for LHCb.
- Support the LHCb sub-detector groups in the construction of the detector assembling facilities at experimental site.
- Study the integration of detector services for several detectors such as cooling and motion systems at the experiment.
- Define installation procedures for the detector services and verify their specification according the CERN safety rules.
- Initiate and follow up the procurement of infrastructure systems and oversee the integration of new detector systems.
- Participate to the standard maintenance periods by supporting the technical coordination in the consolidation and repair work.
Note on Employment ConditionsWe offer a limited-duration contract for a period of 3 years with the possibility of extension. Limited-duration contracts shall terminate by default on their date of expiry.
Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.
These functions require :
- Participation in a regular stand-by duty, including nights, Sundays and public holidays.
- Work during nights, Sundays and public holidays.
- Work in Radiation Areas.
- Interventions in underground installations.
- A valid driving licence is required.
- Shift work, when required by the needs of the Organization.
Mechanical Engineer Job Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's degree in the field of mechanical engineering, or equivalent*.
*Please note that preference will be given to candidates with the above-mentioned qualifications: In principle consideration will not be given to applications from people with higher qualifications.
Experience- Experience in the integration and installation work of mechanical systems.
- Preferably experience in cooling and electrical distribution systems.
- Proven experience in relations and technical coordination of external companies and contractors.
- Experience in the use of ANSYS, CATIA and office software work packages (Microsoft Office).
Technical competencies- Mechanical analysis & modelling: effective mechanical calculations skills.
- Organisation, planning and control: good technical coordination and organisational skills.
- Design of mechanical systems: familiarity with computer-aided design and drafting tools.
Languages- English or French: spoken and written with the ability to draw up technical texts. The ability to understand and speak the other language in professional contexts would be an advantage.
