At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. They use the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments to study the basic constituents of matter, the fundamental particles. The particles are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives the physicists clues about how the particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.
Electronics Technical Engineer Job Description
As an Electronics Technical Engineer in the Position and Intensity Measurement Section, your main task will be to develop and maintain the electronics related to beam position measurements. The initial emphasis will be on the development of the new orbit measurement systems for the Anti proton Decelerator (AD) and the new low energy anti proton decelerator ELENA.
The job will involve:
- The design of digital acquisition electronics based on field programmable logic-based devices (FPGA).
- The design of front-end low noise analogue amplifiers.
- The design and test of beam position monitors.
- Test, installation and maintenance of these electronic acquisition systems in the machines.
Qualification required
Bachelor's degree in the field of Electronics Engineering, or equivalent*.
*Please note that preference will be given to candidates with the above-mentioned qualifications: in principle consideration will not be given to applications from people with higher qualifications.
The experience required for this post is:- Demonstrated experience in the field of electronics engineering.
The technical competencies required for this post are:- Design of electronics based on field programmable logic-based devices (FPGA).
- Implementation of signal processing in DSP's.
- Analog and digital circuit design, modelling and simulation.
- Analog and digital circuit testing and measurement techniques.
The following technical competencies would be an advantage:- Design of digital signal conditioning and processing electronics.
- Knowledge of low noise design and EMI mitigation techniques.
- Knowledge of Python for design of test benches.
The behavioural competencies required for this post are:- Achieving results: following through on new ideas and innovations; planning and implementing application; driving work/projects along and seeing them through to their conclusion.
- Managing self: working well autonomously; taking on activities and tasks without prompting.
- Working in teams: building and maintaining constructive and effective work relationships.
- Demonstrating flexibility: demonstrating openness to new ideas and situations; being willing to work on different projects simultaneously.
