IP Advisor (m/f) Job Description
Function details: The IP Advisor will ensure our customer’s R&D community and other technical departments address intellectual property opportunities, threats and issues within the ongoing and potential research or project development projects within the company. He/She will ensure the IP actions undertaken match eth company strategy and goals.
He/She will ensure all project teams and scientists have an understanding of the relevant IP issues and opportunities in our customer’s R&D organization, by providing selected information on patents issued in related fields.
He/She will organize relevant processes and communication tools to make sure information is accessed and analyzed together with the relevant experts in the company.
He/She will recommend actions and strategies to cope with competition’s IP or IP strategy, FTO issues or other opportunities/threads identified in patent surveys.
He/She will proactively coordinate and prepare patent filing and prosecution.
He/She will manage our customer’s IP portfolio in agreement with R&D management and will organize and update/monitor their other related IP databases.
Expectations for this role include:
- Assist scientists and project teams in identifying IP goals in the ongoing or newly proposed projects within the R&D department by setting up and executing processes to analyze FTO, opportunities and threats at the start of the project and by ensuring follow-up and reviewing processes at key project milestones.
- Lead and coordinate the processes for application within our customer’s organization and with the IP attorney offices, new patent filing and prosecution of the filings for R&D results identified for protection within R&D projects.
- Follow up on all actions needed to ensure prosecution of ongoing IP submissions in close interaction with attorney firms and experts. Take all initiatives necessary to support the prosecution process in close consultation with the responsible scientists and project team.
- Organize and process IP surveys (monthly) and searches and disseminate the proper information to the relevant person(s) and project reams within our customer’s organization. Follow up to make sure that IP opportunities are not missed, or IP threats are identified in related projects.
- Ensure that the company is fully aware of relevant IP activities from competitors, potential collaborators and technology suppliers to identify any FTO issue or opportunity for relevant licensing or opposition. Contribute, with the concerned project team and the company lawyer, to the preparation and negotiation of R&D contracts and other agreements with third parties by addressing the details of the IP and ownership related clauses, recommending terms and processes in contracts to protect our customer’s interests and goals.
IP Advisor (m/f) Job Requirements
Education and qualifications:
- PhD in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Biotechnology, or Bioengineer with relevant experience in a related area of plant biology r a related field of an IP structure of office connected to a research environment.
- Familiarity with IP issues is a must.
- Excellent scientific background in plant science, experience in managing a portfolio of patents and patent submissions with support of expert offices.
- Experience in contributing to patent writing, submission, filing and prosecution.
- Analytical mind with excellent writing skills to summarize project status and capture information needed for patent filing and prosecution.
Personality and mentality:- Good negotiating skills, motivated to achieve the goals of the projects in relation to IP matters.
- Pro-active with external counsels in IP matter to achieve results, setting and meeting deadlines.
- Self-confident and excellent communicator.
- Proven coordination and leadership skills.
- Result oriented and open minded lobbyist.
- Driven by enthusiasm, commitment and dedication.
- Sociable, ethical and trustworthy.
Languages:- Fluent in English, both oral and written.
- At least one additional language (FR, NL, DE or ES)
Mobility/travel: International travelling: +/- 10 %.
