Company profile
MPS Meat Processing Systems is a global supplier of automated slaughter and cutting lines, intralo-gistic systems for the food industry and industrial waste water treatment systems. MPS is organised into six market-oriented business units. The Red Meat Slaughtering business unit develops and produces slaughtering and cutting lines for pigs, cattle and sheep. New machines are designed in a multidisciplinary development environment. This allows us to make maximum use of the technological advantages of the various technological fields so that we can real-ise optimum benefit (such as revenue, reliability, capacity and hygiene) for our customers. The development of a new generation of slaughter robots started successfully several years ago. MPS has set a new standard in the robotisation of slaughter processes through the use of 3D image processing technology to measure the carcass characteristics, and by using the maximum control possibilities of robots and the twin tool concept (while one tool is working, the second one is being sterilised).
For the Red Meat Slaughtering (RMS) business unit we are looking for an
Mechanical Product Design Engineer
The headoffice of MPS is in the East of the Netherlands, close to the German Border and near the Ruhr-area.
Job description
As Product Design Engineer you work in the R&D Product Development department and are part of a multidisciplinary project team of product and software developers. In this working environment you are responsible for developing a vision of the innovative automation of a specific action in the slaughter/cutting line. You are capable of elaborating this vision using a conceptual design and test-ing it in relation to the design and user requirements drawn up in advance.
Together with a multidisciplinary project team you are able to concisely identify and defend the critical design decisions and work them out in detail with the project team. Using the conceptual design as a basis you determine a schedule for working the conceptual design out in detail, together with a team of product developers, into a first prototype of the design. The challenge is to build up a design with as few component parts as possible and at the same time not surrender any of the intended perfor-mance of the design. During this process you monitor the technical and project-based progress. You make the design suitable for production through an iterative method of testing and the targeted im-plementation of improvements in the design.
The envisaged improvements can relate to the mechanical design and/or the control software. The Product Development department believes that an open consultation structure within the multidiscipli-nary project team is the only way to achieve a perfect design. We expect the employee to be able to look beyond his/her own discipline and be willing to bring his/her ideas and design up for discussion. You are able to raise the level of your colleagues through the transfer of knowledge and peer reviews. You are also able to contribute towards the patenting of the realised product innovations.
