TOYOTA is one of the world's largest automobile manufacturers and a leading global corporation. Founded in 1937. Toyota now sells vehicles in 170 countries and employs over 300.000 people.
Based in Brussels, Belgium, and staffed by 2.700 people and more than 60 nationalities,Toyota Motor Europe (TME) handles the wholesale marketing of Toyota and Lexus vehicles, parts and accessories, and manages Toyota's European R&D, manufacturing and engineering operations.
Team/division description
Our TME European R&D centre is responsible for planning, development and production-support of vehicles aimed at - and locally produced for - the European market. Our target is to develop cars that match European customers’ requirements and expectations.
The pre-development team is part of the Powertrain Engineering group.
Model-based Design team is coordinating X-projects between powertrain research providing new technologies for the concept phase, engine / drivetrain design for concept integration at early stage, and engine calibration to realize concept for mass production... in order to meet the various requirements and expectations placed upon modern vehicles; low emissions, low fuel consumption, power performance, noise, durability, fun-to-drive,….
To achieve this, we are relying on various simulation methods correlated with physical testing methods (engine test benches, vehicle roller test cell, test track driving…) as well as software tools for data processing, visualization, analysis and automated optimisation.
Your responsibilities
Stringent boundaries imposed by ever stricter emission regulations (EU6…), combined with high expectations on vehicle performance & fuel consumption, result in complex engine systems.
- Evaluate engine concept from pre-development phase (steady and transient evaluation) through dedicated Virtual Engine model.
- Integrate various engine components models from intake to exhaust incl. after-treatment and develop tool chain for evaluation for both diesel and gasoline engines.
More in details:
1- Define 0D-1D engine models and correlate their accuracy with real measurement. You’ll have to organize testing and setup correct measurement methods for modelling
2- Modify or create ECU logics to control virtual engine as it would be done in real vehicle
3- Couple intake / combustion / exhaust / ECU logics / after-treatment (from other team) and optimize computing process to evaluate and validate concept outputs.
Your profile
- 1 to 3 years’ experience in Powertrain R&D area with Master in mechanical engineering
- Strong understanding of control logic development & calibration
- Strong know-how on combustion & exhaust system development & control
- Experience in modelling 0D-1D, 3D is a plus
- High interest for engine development and cars development in general
- Flexible team player, open personality with hands-on mentality
- Dynamic member willing to learn new field.
- Interested by practical implementation of research activity
- Fluent in English, any other European language is a plus
- Owner of a driving licence
Software skills:
- Matlab & Simulink mandatory
- Engine modeling software expected (GT-Power, AMESim)
- Model Based Design / Combustion modelling experience
- Exhaust modeling (Axisuite, AMESim)
- ETAS tool chain (Intecrio, Ascet, Inca...)
