Lead Engineer Industrial Automation Job Description

Goal of the position

• The successful Lead Engineer Industrial Automation will take a site wide leading role in providing strategic direction, tactical planning and operational execution of automation and software activities of different advanced and integrated production processes and automated transfer lines. In the domain of: ERP, MES, Historian, SCADA, PLC, Software, Interfaces and infrastructure architecture. His goal is to assure a strong on-going improvement of system reliability, maintainability and performance; safety, quality, uptime and cycle time.
• The Lead Engineer Industrial Automation provides functional leadership towards the site instrumentation and control technicians in the identification and safe implementation of continuous automation and software improvement and development of expert troubleshooting of equipment and processes. He will also work as part of cross functional teams from the perspective of automation and software implementation including installation, debugging and optimization efforts.
• The Lead Engineer will work on projects from the design process, factory acceptance throughout installation, qualification and start-up of both large capital investment projects and smaller continuous improvement projects.
• In this role the successful candidates manage automation and software sub-contractors and work closely with the process engineers and cross functional project teams. 

• Develops a strategy and governance for the industrial automation in an infant food process and manufacturing environment.
• Identifies improvement areas pro-actively and develops proposals (if necessary re-engineers) for improvement with regard to safety, quality, output and reliability based upon present practices.
• Builds, engineers and implements required modifications in manufacturing automation processes for the site while ensuring continuity of the plant as well as product safety.
• Shows strong functional and developmental leadership towards the site based instrumentation and control technicians in a 24/7 environment.
• Manages and heads up multidisciplinary project teams and assures on time delivery and implementation against the goals set within the project.
• Troubleshoots problem areas in case of process deviations in a reliable and safe way that ensures product quality and ensures structural solutions to prevent reoccurrence.
• Develops a maintenance strategy both internal as external eg. backups, contractors, SLA’s.
• Leading software development, functional design specification (FDS) and changes in engineering and innovation projects.
• Develops, implements and benchmarks engineering standards for the Nijmegen site to ensure that projects meet legal, GMP and ISO standards.
• Establishes strong working relationships with key customers/opinion leaders (internal and external) and demonstrates responsibility with a focus on customer service to maximize production uptime.

Qualification and experiences

• Bachelor or Master Degree in electrical engineering or relevant working experience in combination with relevant studies.
• Several years of relevant working experience.
• Proven leadership competence and communication skills in a dynamic FMCG environment.
• Specialism Rockwell PLC’s, Scada, Historian, MES links to ERP and industrial data communication.
• Experience in server systems, client systems, operating systems (incl. virtualisation) and network.
• Knowledge in (safety) instrumentation for automation and process control.
• Practical knowledge in advanced process control, configuration and tuning of industrial control loops.
• Understanding of fundamental principles of engineering processes and project management.
• Basic practice of financial processes.
• Good understanding of legal, environmental, safety and GMP regulations.
• Fluently in English and Dutch.
