Sabic Gelsenkirchen
With a team of more than 380 employees locally, a unique collaboration and exceptional cohesion in Gelsenkirchen, we are running four polymer assets with a total yearly production volume of approximately one million metric tons of polymer products, which find their final usage in an uncountable number of applications in our daily lives.
The proud history dates back to the late 50s with the construction and successful commissioning of the first polyethylene plant followed by a large expansion with two polypropylene plants in the late 60s. Over time, with strong focus and relentless commitment on continuous growth, the site has been converted and expanded to today’s configuration of two polyethylene and two polypropylene plants, of which two each are world scale assets. The most recent very significant expansion with startup of a new HDPE (bimodal) plant has been realized in 2008.
The advantage of being located next to the olefins plants of Ruhr Oel GmbH – BP Gelsenkirchen and additionally being connected to the European Ethylene Pipeline (ARG) and Propylene Pipeline (PRG), means a well-secured supply of the required feedstocks ethylene and propylene as well as a strong integration and position in the European Petrochemical Association.
Today and in the future, the Gelsenkirchen plants are cornerstones and indispensable contributors for a successful and sustainable business in Europe.
