We offer our clients solutions and services in the field of coasts and rivers, water management and rural development, water cycle, ports, offshore and waterways & constructions.
As waves propagate from offshore towards nearshore, generation of bound long waves may occur under certain conditions. Sand (1981) has published the directional transfer function of these waves as a function of water depth, wave frequency and wave angle. Also measurements have been done with bi-chromatic waves over a constant plane.
Recently, the wave model SWASH (TUDelft, 2011) was extended with a second-order correction option for the generation of the boundary conditions. This correction prevents the release of a spurious long wave in the computational domain. Rijnsdorp et al. (2012) have published the formulation of this correction and the capability of SWASH for generating bound long waves.
ARCADIS is interested in investigating the possibilities of applying this model for resolving the generation of bound long waves in real project situations. We propose to do a series of experiments to verify the performance of SWASH in reproducing the generation of bound long waves. Subsequently, we will apply SWASH in a real project situation.
The candidate will graduate in the field of civil engineering, oceanography or applied mathematics. A clear understanding and enthusiasm about waves and modelling is askt. To learn more about the topic you will be doing research, making analyzes and enter dicussions with teammates.
