Regulatory Toxicologist
This position is based in LOUVAIN-LA-NEUVE
Your formula for success:
• Ensure compliance with European, US and other chemical and application regulations
• Maintain toxicological and ecotoxicological as well as exposure information of Albemarle’s chemicals
• Perform risk assessments as required by different legislations (e.g. EU REACH, US EPA test rules, biocides)
• Disseminate toxicology information on Albemarle’s chemicals
• Engage in a proactive and collaborative relationship with customers and regulatory agencies
• Search, analyze and evaluate relevant published information.
• Keep abreast of scientific developments in the area of Human and Environmental hazard and risk assessment
• Work in the European and Global HSE toxicologists’ team to develop testing plans and testing strategies for our chemicals, monitor studies, compose summaries and interpret results.
• Cooperate with business units to identify needs for toxicological and ecotoxicological testing for regulatory purposes and registrations worldwide.
• Be involved in the hazard communication and in particular in the creation of safety data sheet and other hazard information for our customers
• Represent Albemarle in negotiations with regulatory authorities, customers and international working groups.
• Contribute to inter-industry working groups and publications on new aspects of toxicology and risk assessment of chemicals. Cooperate with our Advocacy and Communication team in preparing scientifically robust communication on the hazard and risk of our products.
Elements in your background:
• The candidate will ideally have a minimum of 5 year of experience in Regulatory Toxicology of Chemicals
• He/she should hold PhD in chemistry, biology, veterinary medicine, medicine, pharmacy, or other related sciences and a post graduate degree in toxicology.
• He/she should have a sound knowledge of organic and inorganic chemistry and risk assessment of “difficult substances”.
• He/she should have a working knowledge of software systems used for toxicology: EPISUITE, IUCLID, ECETOC-TRA, etc. and should be familiar with REACH, the EU Biocidal Products Regulations. Some knowledge in US and international chemical control laws and registration requirements is an asset.
• He/she must be fluent in English, any other European languages being a plus.
• He/she must be willing to travel and spend extended time in the US
• He/she must be capable to operate autonomously, with a strong sense for initiative, and he/she will demonstrate excellent inter-personal and communication skills
