Senior Product and Presales Engineer Job Description

Background:
Avanti provides satellite broadband products and solutions to wholesale customers that package and sell them to end-users who cannot access traditional broadband networks.
With Avanti's first satellite, HYLAS 1, launched in November 2010, and HYLAS 2 due for launch in 2012. The Senior Product and Presales Engineer is required to closely support our Sales team in Europe, in addition to providing active mentorship to junior team members. The position will involve identification and capture of technical requirements, the design of elegant and effective value-add solutions and presentation to prospects. Additionally the position involves the preparation of technical responses to RFI/RPS, technical and commercial trail implementation and management, and post sales implementation documentation and project management assistance to internal functions.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Provide technical presales support to Sales team across EMEA;
- Actively mentor and support more junior Product and Presales team members;
- Take responsibility for pre and post sales engineering support processes and documentation;
- Design and deliver product presentations and demonstrations;
- Gather and understand prospect requirements;
- Design elegant and effective value add solution propositions;
- Manage technical RFI/RFP responses (content and process);
- Manage technical and commercial trials (content and process);
- Document and communicate customer implementation plan and deliverables to internal functions;
- Project manage customer post sales implementation;
- Provide feedback to Product Management and Engineering functions.
Senior Product and Presales Engineer Job Requirements
Skills and Qualifications required:
- Recognised and appropriate engineering or technical qualification e.g. BTEC/BEng;
- Track record in technical product or pre-sales engineering;
- Technical working knowledge of IP networking with CCNA or greater equivalent qualification or experience;
- Technical working knowledge of iDirect, Hughes Network Systems and major VSAT vendor platforms;
- Technical working knowledge of UMTS and GSM technologies;
- Ability to identify and capture customer technical and operational requirements, using technical expertise to design elegant and effective value add solutions;
- Ability to effectively present solutions to a wide range of prospects, from technical to board level;
- Experience in common desktop productivity tools such as Word, Excel and Outlook, along with strong MS Visio skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English;
- Ability to travel world-wide.
Desirable skills: - Good understanding of RF and satellite communications, including key concepts such as link budgeting, modulation, VSAT hardware (including marine and terrestrial portable platforms) and cellular backhaul over VSAT;
- Project management experience;
- Other EMEA language skills.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the jobholder is required to perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the supervisor/line manager from time to time.
