Technical Engineering Manager  

Primary Function:  

Reporting to the Site Services Manager, the Technical Engineering Manager will be responsible for the

  • management of the manufacturing engineering and instrument engineering functions, to ensure the maximum availability of all manufacturing and laboratory equipment, instruments and processes. 
  • project/programme management function, which manages all capital, NPI and engineering-related projects at the site. 
  • development and implementation of strategy, key processes and technologies to ensure maximum equipment effectiveness in a fast-paced cGMP/FDA regulated environment.
  • strategic focus to plan, implement and manage all elements of major engineering and capital projects including design, procurement, and installation /validation activities as required.
  • continuous development of the maintenance operation by implementing best practices in TPM, OEE & Lean Six Sigma.   

Key responsibilities:
  • Identifies and communicates department vision, new strategies and projects for the improvement of key business metrics.
  • To execute to plan on large scale engineering projects and other capital projects. 
  • Devotes a significant portion of time to managerial, leadership, and employee development of a complex or large department.
  • To formulate and deliver a maintenance strategy based on best practice that will improve equipment availability, reduce the spend on maintenance and free-up resources to work on equipment and process improvements.
  • Responsible for the departmental basics including budgeting, hiring, day-to-day management, project resourcing, etc.
  • Development of necessary manufacturing process’s on site ensuring optimization of layout, process flow and overall process capability.
  • Development of process’s which fully meet Abbott’s regulatory and quality requirements working in close relationship with QA and Operations counterparts. 
  • Provides guidance and training to staff, assists subordinates in attaining career goals, motivates individuals to achieve results, and recruits and maintains a high quality staff.
  • Responsible for succession planning and the development and implementation of retention strategies.
 

TECHNICAL ENGINEERING MANAGER-13000001Y9 Job Requirements

Qualifications  

Education and Training:

  • University degree in relevant engineering discipline. Masters degree an advantage.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing/Six Sigma, financial metrics, advanced project management, FDA 21 CFR Part 804 & 11and cGMP requirements

Experience:
  • A minimum of 5-7 years engineering experience in medical device / pharmaceutical or other highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  •  A minimum of 3 years in direct management of professional teams in a fast paced environment.
  • Experience of leading large scale, complex project management activities in an international corporation with high standards of excellence.
  • Experience of managing automation and NPI projects in cleanroom operations is a distinct advantage.
