Training and Product Support (TPS) - Engineering & Design Systems (EDS)
JOB PURPOSE
The EDS Training & Product Support department is responsible for delivering consistent support and training services for new and existing EDS products to the AVEVA regional organisation while helping to ensure products are robust and fit for purpose.
Working as an integral part of the EDS Training & Product Support department, the Schematics & Engineering Team Lead will supervise, develop and provide guidance to team members within the TPS Schematics & Engineering team. The Team Lead will also contribute to team deliverables while retaining overall responsibility for the timely, high quality execution of team tasks.
DIMENSIONS
The primary focus of the role is to guide and steer the team in their technical work from a position of representing and understanding the industry/end-user requirements. The TPS Schematics & Engineering Team consists of 7 UK based staff and occasionally a Graduate typically on six-monthly rotation.
Travel within the UK and abroad will form part of the overall scope of work.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Technical:
The Team Lead will personally:
- Work with the TPS Project Manager to develop Product Roll-out Plans covering product validation, knowledge transfer and training collateral for all new Schematics & Engineering releases. Provide accurate task estimates and preferred resource allocation for all team activities to the TPS Project Manager.
- Be responsible for the successful and timely execution of all team activities, keep the Project Manager informed of task status and escalate any issues that cannot be mitigated within the Schematics & Engineering team.
- Work with the Project Manager and other TPS Team Leads to identify and deliver all cross-team activities while continually striving to improve cross-team efficiency.
The Team Lead will work with their team to represent the AVEVA Schematics & Engineering products through the following TPS Activities:
- Validate product readiness of AVEVA Schematics & Engineering (and other associated products) via a series of engineering based tests (to be created, maintained and constantly extended). Use industry experience to guide team in defining scenarios to provide coverage of existing and newly developed functionality. Ensure the timely execution of the resulting scenarios.
- Provide second line support services to the AVEVA regions including:
- Manage and progress Support Incidents assigned to the team and provide clear directive to development regarding which customer support incidents to prioritise.
- Serve as a focal point for regional product queries and provide resolutions where possible and escalate as required.
- Work with customers, AVEVA regional technical resource, Product Strategy and Product Development regarding enhancements/new feature requests – help assess need, benefit, cost, etc. Help provide detailed specifications to Product Development when an enhancement/new feature is to be included in the software, validate fit for purpose before customer receipt.
- Responsible for guiding and contributing to the creation and maintenance of the AVEVA Schematics & Engineering (and other associated) product training material as well as:
- Involvement in certifying AVEVA regional resource to deliver said training material.
- Involvement with knowledge transfer activities to the AVEVA regional resource relating to the use of new products and new product functionality
- Work with AVEVA Divisions and customers to ensure quality training material is available that reflects current industry practices.
- Provide AVEVA Divisions with quality technical knowledge and information relating to EDS products.
- Use personal industry & product knowledge (as well as that of the team) to work with Product Development to continually improve the quality of the AVEVA Schematics & Engineering products and provide high quality AVEVA Schematics & Engineering collateral and knowledge throughout the AVEVA organisation.
- Potential personal involvement (or team member involvement) with the delivery of product support services (training, implementation, customisation, etc.) when AVEVA regional resource is unavailable.
People SupervisionThe Team Lead will:
- Lead, supervise and develop the team in line with the AVEVA values.
- Be familiar with the suite of AVEVA policies and procedures contained within the staff handbook and lead team members in line with these
- Be responsible for all administrative tasks relating to line management at AVEVA such as approval of holiday via the HR system, approval of expense claims via Concur
- Manage personal issues which individual team members may encounter with guidance from the Human Resources department
- Manage and promote the AVEVA Appraisal system ensuring that each team member receives regular appraisals in line with the Company standard
- Set objectives and provide regular feedback to team members on their performance and carry out performance coaching with individuals as and when required
- Identify the learning and development needs of the team and suggest suitable training interventions as appropriate
- Provide mentoring, guidance and challenging objectives to AVEVA Graduates during rotations within the EDS TPS Teams
IMPORTANT WORKING RELATIONSHIPS - A close working relationship with the TPS Manager is critical; the Team Lead will take guidance and agree prioritisation with the Manager in all aspects of daily work.
- Close collaboration and cooperation with TPS Project Manager, TPS Principle Technical Specialist and all TPS Team Leads is essential to meet deliverables and achieve maximum cross team efficiency.
- To work with Product Development to help ensure the delivery of high quality product (main release, service packs and hotfixes) to the AVEVA user-base that improves efficiency and/or product perception.
- To work with members of EDS Strategy & Marketing to ensure consistency of technical message to the business regarding content of future AVEVA Schematics & Engineering software and to help ensure the successful execution of Early Adopter and Lighthouse Customer programmes.
- To work with the Product Group Test Team (UK and India) to advise them on industry based end-user workflows to help ensure the best possible test coverage prior to product release.
- Very important link between TPS and the Regional Sales and Technical organisation with regard to Schematics & Engineering Customer:
- Issues and requirements, agreeing priorities and delivering solutions/resolutions.
- Current issues and future requirements in relation to new industry processes and practices.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Experience and knowledge of engineering & design, engineering practices and deliverables within the Process Industries
- A minimum of five years’ experience working within the engineering industry or working with AVEVA Schematics & Engineering products (ideally both)
- An ability to communicate product issues between customers and colleagues
- Structured and able to create, refine and execute procedures while also having the ability to think quickly and react positively to any quickly evolving or unexpected scenarios
- An ability to manage and handle multiple commitments simultaneously while working effectively in a dynamic team
- An ability to document and communicate in English to a very high standard. Comfortable to deliver presentation material to a variety of audiences
- An ability to take a proactive approach to challenges while meeting a responsibility to deliver
- Willing to travel
- Able to make day to day decisions independently
- Self motivated and possessing a passion for success
- A good facilitator and organiser.
