Responsibilities:
This is a technical role in one of Shell’s major project hubs. The team based at Rijswijk Office delivers top quality in-house technical assurance for Shell’s assets in Europe, Middle-East and Africa (EMEA), including upstream, downstream and retail.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide high-level strategic technical advice on Soil and Groundwater and Water Resource Management Issues, enabling Projects & Technology to provide competitive services and successful projects for Shell and Joint Venture customers.
Current focus for Upstream is water resource management and environmental monitoring related to development of unconventional gas plays.
Current focus for Downstream is providing high-level technical assurance on sitecharacterisation, conceptual site models, risk assessments and remediation strategies prepared by external consultants.
The assignment will involve unique opportunities to work internationally on complex problems aimed at broadening individual exposure and skill base. Up to 30% of your time may require travel to deliver support.
For Hydrogeologists, you will be expected to provide expertise with hydrogeologic analyses (aquifer testing, stratigraphic interpretation/correlation, etc), and be able to direct/develop site assessment programs, as well as contribute to remediation strategy development and regulatory negotiations (requires knowledge of remediation technologies and regulatory requirements).
For Environmental/Remediation Engineers, you will be expected to provide expertise in testing, conceptual design, and implementation of various commonly-applied remediation technologies (SVE, Air Sparging, Pump & Treat, etc). Plus ex-situ treatment technologies and with fate & transport aspects of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil and groundwater. You will also contribute to remediation strategy development and regulatory negotiations.

Requirements:
You will have a Masters Degree or PhD Environmental/Civil/Chemical Engineering, Water Engineering, Geological Science, or related discipline with substantial experience in upstream oil & gas projects, and be able to demonstrate considerable team leading skills.
Substantial practical experience working in a groundwater resource or a contamination related role, for extractive industry or regulatory agency, or an independent consultancy.
Experience of groundwater issues related to oil & gas exploration and production activities would be an advantage.
The working language of Shell is English and candidates must be able to work effectively in written and spoken English. Fluency and/or working knowledge of one or more other languages, whilst in no way essential, would be an advantage.
