(Senior) CBM Expert Propulsion (6 FTE) - Drunen, Netherlands Job Description
This purpose of the CBM Centre Propulsion is to provide CBM (Condition Based Maintenance) services that enhance the business of our customers by improving efficiency, reliability, availability and optimizing maintenance logistics, while continuously improving our CBM services to benefit both Wärtsilä’s customers and the environment. The CBM Centre Propulsion provides such services for Wärtsilä’s global propulsion equipment portfolio comprising of Steerable- and Transverse Thrusters, Controllable Pitch Propellers, Reduction Gears, Electric Pods and Water Jets.
In order to achieve this, the CBM Centre Propulsion has three areas of focus:
- Ensure customer satisfaction by providing high quality data analysis on-time and by providing support with world class competences in CBM and propulsion equipment maintenance.
- Continuously improve and develop the CBM products and services in co-operation with other Wärtsilä stakeholders to acquire and maintain technological and market leadership.
- Proactively provide technical support to Wärtsilä’s sales (support) organizations to improve the success rate of the offering process.
As a CBM Expert Propulsion in the CBM Centre Propulsion you will:
- Primarily be responsible for executing CBM analysis for propulsion equipment.
- Provide technical support in your areas of expertise.
- Participate in the development of CBM technology and processes.
- Participate in the development of maintenance and asset management concepts that further enhance the business of Wärtsilä customers.
CBM data analysis consists mainly of vibration analysis for rotating equipment, oil analysis, control system- and hydraulic- performance analysis and analysis of specific maneuvers. Data analysis is supported by an advanced automated decision support system. The decision support system assists in identifying potential failures, whereby the CBM expert can focus on resolving issues in close contact with the customer.
The CBM Expert is to become a recognized resource on the following subjects: - Vibration analysis for rotating equipment;
- Condition monitoring methods and techniques;
- Component degradation and failure patterns and the influence of service factors;
- Maintenance actions and service jobs;
- Reliability engineering;
- Relevant rules and regulations with respect to condition based maintenance and extension of maintenance intervals.
In addition a CBM expert Propulsion will have mechanical-, hydraulic-, hydrodynamic- and controls system-knowledge.

The following is required:
- Bachelor+ / Master / PhD degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Fluent in English and Dutch, both orally and written
- Good communication skills
- Good analytical skills
- Technical reporting skills
- Proactive attitude and ability to learn
Experience in any of the following fields is an advantage: - experience with propulsion equipment (or other large rotating equipment)
- vibration analysis
- condition monitoring and / or condition based maintenance
- hydraulics, hydrodynamics, and / or control systems
- affinity towards scripting / programming (e.g. in MATLAB)
Whether applicant enters the role of a normal CBM Expert Propulsion or a Senior CBM Expert Propulsion is dependent on prior experience and educational level.
