Senior Staff Engineer Job Description

Mission
Research and develop innovative optical interconnect solutions with focus on mechanical optical connectors and high precision optical moulding componts. This function is as well responsible to acquire a deep understanding of competition products, available and new researched optical technologies that may impact our technology roadmap or product positioning in the market.

Result Areas
Client:

• Participate in the definition of new innovative R&D projects; define R&D scope and product/ technology specification;
• Develop new concepts, products and solutions in accordance with the PACE and/or TPACE innovation process methodology using standardized engineering tools and methods;
• Perform technology surveys to understand better the prior art and new technologies which are in development at Research institutes, competition and companies developing adjacent products and technologies;
• Work with external laboratories to build a network of expertise;
• Lead and/or participate in R&D projects with or without participation of Universities, companies in the framework of a R&D Collaboration project;
• Work with the Intellectual Property department to apply for patents, survey new published patents;
• Provide expertise support to new Product development teams and when appropriate collaboratively work with them;
• Develop knowledge and document it through best practices, engineering tools, etc.;
• Provide technical assistance to Business Development and sales functions with adequate engineering documentation, prototypes, interconnect demonstrators;
• Foster collaboration with other functions: process engineering, manufacturing and quality engineering, purchasing, product management and sales;
• Lead R&D mechanics engineering group in the research and development of new solutions

• Ensure the right engineering tools are used to optimize design quality;
• Participate in R&D project reviews;
• Attend technical conferences;

• Provide team members with training programs as needed to make use of new developed technologies;
• Encourage teams to define best practices and promote them to the Knowledge Management Portal;

• Develop the products within the planned budget and meeting product and technology cost objective;
• Develop new ideas and systematically apply for patents;
• Ensure accurate and reliable information on projects performance;
• Monitor and analyze the project spending within the area of responsibility;

• Communication ( in English) with:
  • Project Managers/Project Team;
  • Product Managers/ Business Development Managers, sales, customers and manufacturing organization;
  • Engineering Management;
  • Intellectual property department;

• Lead the mechanics R&D group and projects. The leadership comprises:
  • Organizing the work
  • Coaching the team members
  • Organize and chair team meetings
  • Define and monitor action plans

• Responsible for:
  • Creation of new innovative optical interconnect solutions
  • High precision moulding process using internal moulding machine
  • Overseeing design and manufacture of moulds
  • Designing passive electrical and optical I/O solutions
  • Applying for patents to protect the R&D results;
  • Ensuring efficient and effective development of new products;
  • Defining with engineering management the R&D project budget;
  • Monthly reporting of Project activities and results;
  • Ensuring proper filing and registration of technical data;
  • ISO TS compliance;

Senior Staff Engineer Job Requirements

• • Engineering degree
  • Minimum 5 years experience as mechanical R&D engineer
  • Good communication skills
  • English
  • Structural thinker: able to analyze and provide accurate brief synthesis
• Familiar with moulding and stamping manufacturing processes
• Eager to learn
• Must be an innovator
• Good project management skills;
• Good team motivator;
• Ready to travel within the region and globally, to visit other engineering centers, customers, R&D institutes.
