For our Corporate Intellectual Property (CIP) department at the global headquarters in Veldhoven, we are looking for a qualified Dutch or European Patent Attorney. Job Mission
Establishing, prosecuting and maintaining patent rights in the field of Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems, as well as evaluating and reducing patent risks from a worldwide perspective.
Job Description
You will be part of the Patents EUV / Cymer Light Source (CLS) group which currently consists of six Patent Attorneys and report to the Director Patents EUV / CLS. Your responsibilities include-Interacting with Research and Development & Engineering groups in order to determine opportunities to establish patent rights and determine existence of patent risks.
-Autonomously managing a patent portfolio in one or more technical fields, including filing and prosecution of patent rights worldwide as well as reporting on and regular pruning of the patent portfolio.
-Determining risks posed by third party patent portfolios and mitigate identified risks. Assist in court cases if needed.
-Provide objective, informed and legally competent advice and direction to the management of the EUV business regarding intellectual property rights, opportunities, risks and liabilities.
Education
You have a MSc degree in physics, mechanics, electrical engineering or similar technical field. You are a qualified Dutch and/or European Patent Attorney, or are in the process of becoming a qualified Patent Attorney.
Experience
-Technical experience in optics, mechatronics or similar field.
-Solid basic experience in handling IP matters in industry or IP law firm.
-Strong English language skills.
-Dutch language skills preferred.
Personal skills
-Being able to go into detail, but adopting a helicopter view when necessary.
-Strong analytical and communication skills.
-Ability to work independently and in teams.
-Decisive and self-initiating.
-Good “sparring partner” to inventors.
-Pro-active and customer-friendly mindset.
Context of the position
Within ASML, the CIP department is responsible for maximizing ASML’s intellectual property value, to execute and support ASML’s objectives and business. More specifically, CIP aims to preserve ASML’s freedom of operation by protecting ASML’s technology by intellectual property rights and by mitigating third parties’ rights based risks. At the CIP department, about 70 people work at four locations (Veldhoven (NL) and Wilton, San Diego, San Jose (US)) to accomplish the above-stated mission. Each Patent Attorney works in one of three CIP groups, organized along ASML’s business lines.
