TNO is an independent research organisation. We believe in the joint creation of economic and social value. We focus on transitions or changes in five social themes:
Industry: from economic stagnation to growth in high-technology industry
Healthy Living: from illness and treatment to health and behaviour
Defence, Safety & Security: from a wide range of threats to controllable risks
Urbanisation: from urbanisation bottlenecks to urban vitality
Energy: from conventional sources to sustainable energy systems.
Innovation with purpose is what TNO stands for. We develop knowledge not for its own sake, but for practical application.
OUR MISSION
TNO connects people and knowledge to create innovations that boost the competitive strength of industry and the well-being of society in a sustainable way.
OUR STRATEGY
Every four years, in close collaboration with our stakeholders, we draw up a strategic plan that describes how we will pursue our mission. This plan is our proposal to society. Our strategy is a reflection of the trends we observe in society and technology. In close coordination with our stakeholders we have defined five transitions on which we will focus. These are in line with the challenges and ambitions of the Top Sector policy and social themes in the Netherlands and the rest of Europe.
Being a measurement engineer within the wind energy research group, you will use your electro technical background on a day to day basis. For this you do not stay inside, nor with two feet on the ground.
You work on different types of projects. Think of testing new prototypes wind turbines with the purpose of mapping the loads and power of the turbine. Also you work in research projects about the technical aspects of a wind turbine. Together with the Lead Measurement Engineer, you work in the campaigns from beginning to end.
Starting with the quotation phase, tuning signal lists, making a measurement plan, sensor and hardware preparation to installation in the field, analysing the measurement data and making the official reporting according to international standards. When the campaign is running the main activities are tracking progress, checking the measurement systems, and measurement data for issues …and plenty of trouble shooting. All these tasks make the work very diverse and ensure a healthy balance between outdoor and indoor work.
Our department is based in the dunes in Petten. And you will also regularly visit the test field in the Wieringermeer, where most of the prototype measurements take place. Alternatively, you may be based primarily at our offices in Delft and focus work in Rotterdam.
You are proactive towards picking up tasks and have good communicative skills. This is important as you are always working together or climbing up a wind turbine with a colleague. Next to that a very important aspect of the work is safety. You are aware of the risks and take all the safety aspects of the job very seriously.
And since work also depends on weather conditions, and the weather not always sticks to a nine-to-five mentality, you are required to be flexible. But that works both ways: you are given plenty of freedom in your working hours.
Additional skills
ECN.TNO will provide you with all the required safety training for working at height and offshore survival. Next to this training, we offer you plenty of room for personal development.
