Product Engineer - Pattern Fidelity Metrology Job Description

    Introduction

ASML US, LP brings together the most creative minds in science and technology to develop lithography machines that are key to producing faster, cheaper, more energy-efficient microchips. We design, develop, integrate, market and service these advanced machines, which enable our customers - the world’s leading chipmakers – to reduce the size and increase the functionality of their microchips, which in turn leads to smaller, more powerful consumer electronics.

Our headquarters are in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and we have 18 office locations around the United States including main offices in Wilton, CT, Chandler, AZ and San Jose, CA.We are proud of bringing together the brightest minds all over the world to tackle the most challenging problems in making faster and smaller chips. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to go beyond yourself in developing more advanced techniques and push the technology boundaries.

ASML San Jose, CA is an industry leader in computational lithography for integrated circuits.  Our Tachyon platform enables capabilities that address chip design, photomask making and wafer printing for semiconductor manufacturing and the LithoTuner platform enables lithography optimization for ASML’s leading photo lithography tools, known as ‘scanners’.

    Job Mission
Hermes Microvision, Inc. (HMI), an ASML company, is a leading supplier of advanced e-beam inspection and pattern verification systems used for advanced semiconductor devices. HMI has multiple years of e-beam application experience and leadership in semiconductor factories, focused on high resolution and voltage contrast imaging.

As part of ASML, HMI will boost ASML’s holistic lithographic portfolio of (i) lithography exposure systems, (ii) computational lithography and (iii) metrology. Between these three cornerstones ASML offers application products for process window enhancement, control and detection. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to go beyond yourself in developing more advanced techniques and pushing the boundaries of technology.

Pattern Fidelity Metrology enables the prediction and reduction of defects, as well as yield improvement through the combined use of ASML models, metrology data, and scanner control.

    Job Description
We are seeking candidates to join a team of engineers developing new leading-edge products. Pattern Fidelity Metrology, or PFM, provides maps of pattern defects and out-of-spec patterns for every wafer processed in the Fab. PFM uses state-of-the-art electron-beam inspection systems to verify locations where patterns are predicted to be out-of-spec.

For prediction, PFM relies on a combination of full-chip computational lithography to identify patterns most sensitive to process variability, as well as wafer metrology data to map out process variations on every wafer.

The successful candidate will report to HMI’s PFM product engineering manager and work with the team to solve the challenges associated with finding critical defects at the 10-nm node and below.

In general, the product engineers’ function is to develop and to support customer applications. As such, product engineers own the functional specifications of new products, their functional and integration testing, as well as the development of best practices for standard or customized applications. They also provide 2nd line support for established products.
Specific responsibilities of the candidate will include: (i) Interacting with customers to gain understanding of their technical requirements and effectively translating these requirements onto new product specifications; (ii) Helping conduct feasibility studies; (iii) Determining best practices for new products; (iv) Responsibility for new product introductions; (v) Performing acceptance tests; and (vi) Conducting customer engagement projects to demonstrate the performance of our products.
