IT Storage and Data Management Engineer Job Description

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

• To implement, maintain and support an effective IT storage, backup and disaster recovery platform for the company.
• Continuous management of IT data storage platforms to support business improvement programs, data growth, security, performance and availability.
• Validate through regular exercise the recovery capability of applications, business information, databases and the server environment in preparation for irregular events or malicious attack.
• Plan, and implement a comprehensive data retention and backup system with published and tested SLA’s for storage, archive and recovery of corporate information.
• Enabling the proactive and reactive monitoring of all storage and resolution of issues.
• Analysing data usage patterns and making recommendations for capacity planning, long term storage and archiving.
• Ensuring private information is secured through appropriate segregation, access controls and data encryption.
• To carefully plan the implementation of disruptive tasks through risk assessments, communication and change management
• Some out of hours work will be necessary for routine maintenance and implementing disruptive changes.

IT Storage and Data Management Engineer Job Requirements

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

• Good A-Level results and/or a Degree or Diploma - Storage and backup vendor certification such as HP, EMC or NetApp - Microsoft Certification such as MCSE/MCSA/MCP PERSON SPECIFICATION:
• Good communication and good interpersonal skills, able to influence/persuade people at all levels. - Good planning, organizational and administrative skills.
• Strong team player and customer focused.

• Excellent storage hardware and software knowledge and experience in an enterprise environment.
• Experienced in the setup and configuration of data backup and disaster recovery for file systems, applications, databases and operating environments.
• Experienced in the integration of a storage platform into a Microsoft Windows environment.
• Experienced of deploying storage for virtualization technologies
• Experience of working to industry best practice for IT security such as ISO 27001
• Experience of implementing system monitoring solutions for backup and data analytics.
