Team/division description:
TME Research and Development (R&D) in Europe is responsible for the planning, development and calibration of attractive, superior quality cars matching European market requirements. TME R&D aims to strengthen Toyota brand in Europe.
In R&D Powertrain division, Model Based Design (MBD) department has the responsibilities to:
- Support local Powertrain design and calibration teams by providing MBD tools/process & results to improve EU development process efficiency & quality
- Take part to Global Toyota MBD process improvement by developing new advanced MBD methods to be used by all Toyota oversea R&D centers.
Your responsibilities:With the introduction of new Real Driving Emission (RDE) European regulation, engine exhaust aftertreatment (EAT) systems are getting significantly complex to develop. To maximize the cleaning performance of our exhaust systems, Toyota introduced MBD process to support design and calibration teams.
You will contribute to the development of future Toyota Gasoline EAT system for global market.
You will challenge the implementation of new EAT MBD process from concept study phase until final product calibration.
As a graduate engineer in powertrain division your main responsibility will be to:
1) Lead research projects with European University/Engineering companies to develop new Three Way Catalyst (TWC) and Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF) physical models. You will need to guide them to make sure the development is finished on time and meets all Toyota's requirements. You will have to report your activity internally in Europe and Japan on weekly bases.
2) Use existing and new TWC and GPF models to support Toyota EAT system development:
- Support Toyota Japan design group to define future optimum exhaust concept for Hybrid & Pug-In Hybrid vehicles to meet EU and fleet CO2 regulation
- Support Toyota Europe to have efficient calibration of EAT system control for Hybrid.
3) Follow EU technical conference and make screening of research papers on EAT MBD system development

Graduate Eng. Exhaust system Model Based Design and Evaluation Job Requirements
- Min. Master degree in mechanical or catalysis engineering
- Good understanding of catalytic reactions happening in EAT system
- Interest and motivation in automotive, knowledge of internal combustion engine and emissions
- Must be able to conduct engineering calculations (Mass flow, chemical reactions,…)
- Knowledge of how to perform and analyze simulation and test on Engine bench or Chassis Dynamometer
- Knowledge of engineering software: GT-Power, Axisuite, AMESim, Matlab/Simulink
- Required basic computer skills: Microsoft Office
- Excellent communication skills, team spirit, time and project management
- Must be able to work in an international environment having relationship with diverse TME, TMC engineers and European suppliers
- Member willing to work in an independent way, hands-on mentality, out-of-the-box thinking
- Must be able to effectively communicate in English (written & spoken)
- Owner of a valid driving license
