R&D Engineer Job Description

Will you be our R&D Engineer?

Within the A. de Jong Group there are two business units active in the field of industrial combustion (De Jong Combustion and R&V Engineering). Both supply customized combustion equipment; from conceptual design up to the commissioning phase and on customer demand we deliver support during operation. As an innovative company A. de Jong continuously aims to improve the performance, overall cost of ownership, reliability and lifetime of their products. The R&D department focusses in particular on the development and design of improved and new types of burner system.

Our burner systems are mainly used for supplementary firing in Heat Recovery Steam Generation (HRSG) applications, where Turbine Exhaust Gas (TEG) is used as an oxidizer stream for the burners. These burners need to function reliably for many years under harsh conditions which translates to stringent performance and reliability requirements. Developments in gas turbine and steam boiler technology, a continuous drive to lower the overall burner system cost as well as more stringent environmental regulations on emissions, challenge us to improve our products every day. As R&D engineer your job will be to help develop technical solutions for these challenges that are also commercially viable. For the longer term the R&D department is developing combustion and related technology that fit in the global energy transition towards a lower CO2 footprint.

As R&D engineer your challenge is to work on:

• Development of improved and new burner systems
• Teamwork, work together with several specialists R&D engineer ad one final product
• Contribute to the sustainability and transition of the energy industry

• Can have various backgrounds ranging from Mechanical-, Chemical-, and/or Aerospace, and has at least an MSc or PhD;
• Has 3 - 5 years of experience in relevant industry (engineering, combustion, energy industry). Graduates with the right background will also be considered;
• Good knowledge of fluid dynamics modelling and experience with ANSYS CFD software;
• Can translate new technology into mechanical designs and is familiar with things like stress calculations, material selection, construction techniques, ed;
• Has experience with engineering software Autocad/inventor or else;
• Has preferably understanding of combustion technology and ideally has worked on burner phenomena and/or worked in the burner industry;
• Has a pragmatic development mindset, with experience in R&D projects and/or roles;
• Has demonstrated she/he is able to bridge theory and practice either in a development environment or in the field;
• Understanding of fuel specific combustion chemistry, reaction schemes and emissions is a pre;
• Is fluent in English or Dutch (writing and speech). For non-native Dutch speaking persons knowledge of Dutch is a pre;
• For non-European a work permit for the Netherlands is a must.
