EUMETSAT is Europe’s meteorological satellite agency. Its role is to establish and operate meteorological satellites to monitor the weather and climate from space - 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This information is supplied to the National Meteorological Services of the organisation's Member and Cooperating States in Europe, as well as other users worldwide.

As part of our ongoing development, we are looking for a Computer Systems Architecture Engineer, based within the Computer and Storage Management team, to play a ‘hands on’ role in the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This role will support the full lifecycle of EUMETSAT’s computer systems infrastructure.
Your role will include designing architectural evolutions and managing upgrade activities of the computer systems infrastructure, either conducted in-house or through commercial contracts. You will analyse, plan and manage the performance of hardware and software upgrades. Alongside this, you will ensure continuity of service to our Operations team in line with the established service level agreements. As one of our Systems Administrators you will liaise with external providers to manage hardware and software maintenance. You will oversee procurement activities for commercial third party support and implement anomaly processing and configuration control. You will deputise for your Team Leader, when appropriate.
Alongside a university degree in Computer Science (or equivalent) you will be able to demonstrate experience in maintaining large scale computer systems in operational, high-availability and time critical environments. You will have an in-depth knowledge with hands-on experience in the administration, installation and configuration of a wide range of Operating Systems, including virtual systems. You will be integral to bringing new ideas to support the team in the continued improvement and development of the computer system infrastructure.
