Description of the assignment
The Research & Development (R&D) department of Vanderlande is responsible for the development of new products for internal material handling systems for warehousing, parcel&postal and baggage handling systems. The project's development team which consists of testers, developers, a system architect, a project manager cooperates to deliver a quality product.

Vanderlande applies its Tubtrax system in its projects to sort and transport bagage with high capacity in combination with high reliability. Bagage enters the system at various entry point after which it is transported to different destinations. The tubtrax system is controlled by software (STEP 7 on PLC's).
Additional interfaces are available to monitor and control the system (e.g. SCADA, maintenance GUI) and to optimise its performance (Vanderlande high level controls).

The Tubtrax system is subject to new developments and changing rapidly, which requires extensive testing in a very short period of time:

• Component through to component integration tests are run manually, it is desired to automate these tests where possible.
• Larger systems can be verified in the factory by using computer emulated equipment.
• Real, but relatively small systems will be available to the test team in our Innovation Center.By automating tests on the emulated test environment we can:
• Lower the chances of human error in tests;
• Increase reproducibility of the test result;
• Decrease the amount of test time in the critical project path.

• Control the components (e.g. start, stop, reset)
• Control products (e.g. enter bag, remove bag)
• Control equipment failures (e.g. photocell blockage)

• Evaluate the current test set to establish requirements for the test automation framework.
• Manage your own planning, time and budget are fixed. The amount of implemented functionality is variable.
• Iteratively extend the framework to facilitate the project team in testing their goals (incl. defining an interface to the emulated field equipment component in cooperation with the emulation department).
• Validate the framework by automating at least the intake test and performance test in cooperation with the testers.
• Deliver a test automation framework, with design documentation and test cases.
