Experimental Area Manager (Mechanical Engineering) Job Description
Functions
As Mechanical Engineer in the Atlas Detector Operation (ADO) Group, you will ensure the successful integration of the different components of the ATLAS upgrade, by being the main interface with the technical sector and different service providers. In that context, you will be involved in the management of the common infrastructures which include cabling, assembly spaces, cooling and ventilation.
In particular you will:
- Be part of the Technical Coordination core team and work with all stakeholders: detector experts, members of the collaboration, technical support teams from CERN and collaborating institutes.
- Take part in the design and manufacturing of support structures, access platforms.
- Plan the installation of the services for the upgrade infrastructures and detectors, with particular reference to cable routing and installation, and lead the technical integration team in these operations.
- Initiate and follow up the procurement of infrastructure systems and oversee the integration of new systems and upgraded detectors in the experiment.
- Oversee the civil engineering works foreseen for the surface buildings.
- Support the technical coordination in the maintenance coordination, experimental cavern configuration and follow-up of activities during maintenance periods and technical stops.
- Assist the LEXGLIMOS in assessing that the installation procedures for the upgraded detector parts including their support structures are compliant to the CERN safety rules.
Note on Employment ConditionsWe offer a limited-duration contract for a period of 3 years. Limited-duration contracts shall terminate by default on their date of expiry.
Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.
These functions require:
- Work during nights, Sundays and public holidays.
- Work in Radiation Areas.
- Interventions in underground installations.
- A valid driving licence is required.
Experimental Area Manager (Mechanical Engineering) Job Requirements
Education
- Master's degree in the field of mechanical engineering or equivalent.
Experience- Experience in the integration and installation work of mechanical systems, support structures and services.
- Proven experience in coordinating external companies and contractors.
- Good experience in using mechanical design software such as CATIA.
- Experience in management and supervision of a team would be a plus.
Technical competencies - Organisation, planning and control: coordination of activities involving different technical fields: mechanical work,metallic structures,heavy handling,services,cables routing.
- Contract management.
- Requirements definition and management.
- Mechanical systems integration.
Languages- Spoken and written English, ability to write technical specifications, reports, documentation and to make presentations. Ability to understand and speak French in the professional context would be an advantage.
