Functions
As an Electronics engineer in the Electronics for Protection Section, you will:
- Design protection electronics devices to meet the electrical, mechanical and other specifications.
- Develop the schematics for the new designs.
- Write, document and maintain the firmware for the protection electronics based either on FPGA, micro-controllers or other programmable devices.
- Define application programming interfaces (API) for interfacing the protection electronics with the accelerator control systems.
- Support the development of high level software tools for data analysis and system maintenance by other teams in the MPE group.
- Develop software for the automatic test, configuration and maintenance of protection electronics.
- Prepare all relevant documentation necessary for the operation and maintenance of custom made electronics.
- Support actively the operation of these systems in the LHC and other CERN installations.
- After initial training phase, provide coaching to external collaborators, fellows and students.
Qualification required Master's degree in the field of Electronics engineering, or equivalent.
The experience required for this post is:- Profound knowledge of CAE tools used for design entry, verification and simulation.
- The potential candidate must be familiar with electrical measurement techniques.
- The candidate must be computer literate with solid knowledge of the standard software applications running on WINDOWS TM and LINUX based computers.
- Experience with SCADA, systems and field-busses and JAVA would be an asset.
The technical competencies required for this post are:- Digital circuit design, modelling and simulation: for mixed signal systems.
- Use data acquisition and treatment software: experience with LabView based data acquisition and test systems would be an asset.
- Design of electronics based on field programmable logic-based devices (FPGA): programming of FPGA and microcontrollers.
- Graphical FPGA programming: expert level knowledge of VHDL.
- Programming/software development: good knowledge of C/C++ required.
- Design of digital signal conditioning and processing electronics.
- Commissioning, operation & maintenance of electronic systems.
- Project management.
The language competencies required are:- Spoken and written English: ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports and to make oral presentations; basic knowledge of French or an undertaking to acquire it rapidly.
