At Foster Wheeler we are looking for a Principal Instrument Engineer to carry out the instrumentation scope of work on various FEED, EPC and PMC projects for local and international clients based at our Glasgow offices.
We are looking for an experienced Engineer, with a broad range of C&I skills who are ready to step up and lead small teams of engineers and designers. The right candidate will be highly motivated, able to work independently, and have demonstrable leadership qualities.
Sound technical knowledge coupled with leadership and decision making skills are required to ensure the delivery of challenging project and client targets.
You will be confident in your own ability to deliver the Instrumentation scope on a project on time and within budget, while facilitating effective work share with other execution centres around the world.
Responsibilities:
- Execution of assigned work in accordance with the applicable Project Procedures and Standards, including Foster Wheeler and/or Project Procedures on Safety and Quality Control, within the man-hour and cost budgets and the project schedule targets.
- Develop specification and prepare material requisitions for control systems, instruments, control valves and all other instrumentation.
- Review Vendors' quotations, prepare technical quotation evaluation and recommend the final technically acceptable Vendor. Technically approve Order Variation Summaries. Review and approve Vendor order documentation.
- Liaise with other departments and the client as necessary but in particular:
- With the Process Engineering Department at all stages of the project where equipment has a particular influence on the process design philosophy.
- With Mechanical Equipment, Utilities and Project Groups in relation to instruments and controls associated with packages, to ensure compliance with Project Standards and requirements.
- With Instrument Design Section in relation to instrument matters and review of critical drawings.
- With the Client's Instrument Engineer on technical matters concerning Instrumentation
- Carry out other duties assigned by the Chief Instrument Engineer and in particular:
- Carry out technical investigations, produce technical reports, engineering standards and procedures.
- Assist in the development and training of personnel including graduate engineers when requested.
- Participate in proposal activities as required.
To be technical astute and conversant with the latest advances in technology.
Delivering documentation that is technically correct to the required standard and schedule.
Experience in the following is required:
- Design, selection and procurement of a wide range of field instrumentation for measuring flow, pressure, temperature and level.
- Design, selection and procurement of control valves, ESD valves and Relief Valves.
- Requirements for the selection and design of control systems.
- Site survey experience.
- Development of detailed design deliverables including block cable diagrams, loop diagrams, hook-ups etc in conjunction with an instrument designer.
Experience in the following would be beneficial:
- Experience in a similar role within the contractor environment.
- Production of engineering deliverables using SmartPlant Instrumentation (formally INtools).
- Experience of leading teams.
- Management of man hour budgets, contract changes and schedule delivery.
