Mechanical engineers Job Description
Mechanical engineers
Shell Nederland – Assen
About this job
Do you want to be in control of your own career development and reach your full potential? From the start, you could be working on large scale engineering projects through real hands-on roles. Drilling platforms, refineries, new plants and tankers; they are all developed and built by our engineers, working together in multidisciplinary and international teams.
Who are we looking for?
Talented young professionals and graduates with up to 3 years work experience who hold a University Master's Degree in Mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineers make an impact in a number of areas within Shell. Your engineering and analytical skills are a powerful combination as you develop and design technical solutions in a broad, complex manufacturing environment. You are also likely to have the necessary skills to successfully process a range of information and effectively work in diverse teams.
What you could do at Shell
You could work in Assen on onshore or offshore oil and gas fields. In addition we have subsurface and surface facilities and people from those disciplines therefore need to work very closely together. This means you also get an understanding of aspects which do not directly relate to your discipline or skill pool. There is a strong sense of doing things together like problem solving. Starting in Assen as a graduate will help you build a very strong basis that will be beneficial throughout the rest of your career. You will be matched to one of our engineering disciplines that fits with your ambitions and your skills, like Mechanical Static Engineering: you’ll provide first-line mechanical static (pressurised equipment), shore based, maintenance and engineering support. You will be working with other like-minded individuals at the heart of our business. These roles are part of our Shell Graduate Programme.
What we offer you
Some of the key benefits of our Shell Graduate Programme:
- Leadership development – you’ll have the opportunity to progress globally while developing and diversifying your role to meet your full potential. From the moment you start with Shell you’ll build your skills through real hands-on roles, job tasks and world-class training and leadership development
- Colleagues – you’ll be part of our dynamic, diverse and supportive working culture; a network of friendly professionals at the top their game who fully support each other and strive to excel
- Support – you’ll have a strong support network to help you succeed. Supervisors, coaches, mentors and professional experts will help you monitor and track your progress. You’ll be connected to a global workforce with a wide range of networks such as the Young Shell Professionals Network, Shell Women’s Network, enABLE Network for people with disabilities and more.
- Diversity – we passionately believe in creating an inclusive culture where you can thrive and be inspired.
- Competitive starter salary – and you’ll be recognised and rewarded through performance related pay, the extent of which will depend on your role and location. Our benefits are aligned to local market practice. Some locations offer subsidised services such as sports facilities, medical/dental care and car parking. In some countries, you’ll have the chance to participate in a Shell Share programme.
- Unique location – Groningen/Assen is different from other locations in the Netherlands because of a huge group of graduates undertaking a lot of activities together. Every week there are business-related or social events organised by NAMbitious, the most active Young Shell Chapter of the Netherlands. But next to this there is something to do basically every night. There is a WhatsApp group for all the graduates in which people post if anyone is up for dinner or drinks, concerts or festivals. Additionally, there are Graduate houses, groups cycling to the office from Groningen, dinner clubs that cook together, there is a Pathé group for people going to the movies and many people do sports together such as tennis, hockey, sailing, soccer, swimming, bootcamp or running.
As soon as you start, we’ll assign you a supervisor. He or she will help you decide what you want from your career and the best way to achieve it within Shell. The outcome of this discussion is captured in your development plan. This sets the course for the time you spend on the Programme, which can be anywhere from 3 to 5 years depending on your role.
