Refractory Engineer Job Description

The company has a track record of over 35 years as an engineering company and plant builder for the iron, steel and aluminium industries. They prepares and executes projects, ranging from technical consultancy to the construction and commissioning of entire blast furnace facilities. All technology is state-of-the-art and customized to fit client requirements. Much of the approximate 100 million Euro business volume is based in emerging economies.

For the realization of greenfield and renovation projects, the Engineering Department is divided into the sections Process, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation & Control en Refractory. Latter group consist of about eight engineers and specialists and is responsible the execution of both refractory engineering and refractory related product development

• Advising on and specifying refractory and furnace related designs, constructions and materials.
• Advising on, coordinating and monitoring furnace related innovations.
• Substantiating and validating furnace designs based on industrial processes, laboratory investigations, calculations and simulations.
• Coordinating and providing support for proposals, estimating engineering hours and hardware in cooperation with Proposal Management and Procurement.
• Conducting technical evaluations for the procurement of refractory materials.
• Coordinating technical questions to and from the client and suppliers, who will be visited on a frequent basis.
• Creating and presenting of technical papers during congresses

Refractory Engineer Job Requirements

• Technical Education on MSc level followed by courses in the field on refractory technology and furnace engineering.
• Broad experience (5+ years) in a similar position, preferably within the international iron and steel industry (e.g. blast furnace, hot blast system).
• Knowledge and experience with engineering and innovations of furnace systems.
• Preferably knowledge of computer models.
• ood communication skills, being able to steer a group of professionals.
• Good written and oral skills in English and a second foreign language, being able to give presentations.
• Interested in (limited) traveling internationally.
