Applications Engineer Job Description

Main responsibilities

Design

• Apply book shelved (sourcing completed and available in core system database) GGPCSE components to vehicle lines
• Design the core component installation and component operating environment within the vehicle in accordance with the installation guidelines / SDS
• Design any application unique mounting hardware / brackets / shields / fasteners / clips etc
• Responsible for the entire component installation design from concept to production including issue resolution (including AIMS, DURIS, DPA, E-Tracker etc), design changes, Design Verification and Sign off
• Responsible for designing the installation in accordance with GPDS deliverables and according to programme timing
• Release (and update as required) component specifications for installation components (brackets, mounting devices, security shields/boxes, fasteners etc)
• Generate interface requirements for installation components
• Supplier Request for Engineering Approval (SREA) for stand alone installation components (I.e. not part of PCM / sensor assy)
• Assess component application SDS requirements (application specific requirement) in eFDVS for sensors / modules and installation components as required
• Cascade apps specific requirements to core for inclusion in robustness documentation
• Verification of component drawing for installation components
• Support application fresh eyes reviews
• Maintain AVBOM for Apps D&R components in accordance with GGPCSE BOM
• Update GGPCSE BOM with installation component information
• Lead application design reviews, support component reviews
• Liaise with EESE, Manufacturing, Package engineering, service, interfacing component groups to ensure package approval
• Ordering/tracking parts for special tests (e.g. Rig, NVH, Heat management)
• Co-ordinate and prepare application specific evidence books (DVPSOR)
• Support Manufacturing and Service team issue resolution
• Support installation component APQP (STA lead)

 Quality

• Own quality improvement plan for inst components. (Verify warranty issues using field returned parts)
• Lead Inst. HW quality issue resolution with supplier as appropriate
• Development of application specific quality documentation for installation components (e.g. P diagram, Boundary diagram, Function tree, DFMEA, Robustness Check list, DV and PV plan)
• Develop application specific DV and PV plan for core components using Core quality documentation (esp. SDS requirements)
• Identification of component level TVM opportunities (cascade list opportunities to Core for base HW, have lead for installation components)

Sourcing

• Liaise with suppliers and Purchasing to enable component sourcing for installation components
• Coordination of installation HW supplier activities incl. issue of Formal program direction, creation and signature on TA and SOW
• Lead installation component complexity management

 Testing

• Co-ordinate testing to DV and PV plan for core and installation components in accordance with GPDS
• Issue completed DVP&R
• Lead resolution of non-core component & application related DV failures
• Carry out fastener testing as required by quality process (FMEA & DVP)
• Organizing parts and resources for application testing (CFD analysis, flow analysis, temperatures etc.)

 WERS Releasing

• Ensure all releases in WERS for Apps D&R components according to programme plan (Engine as Installed only)
• Release PCM&ECM with calibration (until Job1+90)
• Manage WERS release to GPDS and programme deliverables
• Support vehicle change management meetings for all relevant releases manage all release approval

 Costs

• Manage component costs for installation components
• Support programme cost studies / TVM events
• Support Purchase Cost Estimating activities (installation components)
• Support business group for ED&T

 Strategic

• Support global core commodity business plans for sensors and modules as needed

Project management

• Work with core to ensure risk free introduction of new technologies
• Generate and manage component delivery plan
• Meet gateway deliverables for Apps D&R  components
• Attend GPCSE PMST as required (and P/T PMT's when requested)
• Support vehicle package meetings as required
• Generate application specific deviations as required
• Support Package / DPA process
• Liaise with Durability teams, TASE, rig areas to ensure that test criteria are met
• Input Apps D&R status into Integrator on a monthly basis

Deliverables

• Application  and Release of sensors and installation component in accordance with GPDS deliverables and according to program timing
• Manage and document robust DV and PV through eFDVS assessments
• Maintain and update assigned E trackers, Conformance plans and AIMS
• Maintain AVBOM
• Development of application specific quality documentation for installation components (e.g. P diagram, Boundary diagram, Function tree, DFMEA, Robustness Check list, DV and PV plan)
• Program specific CAD installations in TCE
