Commodity Engineer Job Description

• Work with the Global PD teams to identify technical and commercial opportunities for alignment and commonality.(specification alignment and combined volume leverage)
• Engage the supply base as part of the team to identify areas of technical growth and alignment.
• Establish cost information aligned to volume, technology, low cost sourcing and the value chain opportunities.
• In conjunction with purchase, establish a sourcing strategy for each commodity.
• In conjunction with purchase, devise and run RFQs/ OLQs and market tests to leverage
suppliers, close gaps and source new business in line with cycle plan requirements andJVs.(PCM and Sensors.)
• Identify a migration and sourcing plan which delivers the cost roadmap, aligns to the sourcing strategy and supports the cycle plan
• Engine Management System global cost estimation process alignment:
• Develop and obtain agreement on the sources of component cost data
• Analyse the North American ASIC cost model and modify where necessary and obtain
agreement with suppliers
• Develop mark-up structures for supplier unique, licensed, and build to print models of
production

Electronic Module Integration strategy:

• Lead the analysis and develop the strategy for the Powertrain Auxiliary Modules
• Obtain global agreement for the strategy and develop the implementation plan
• Produce the business case and incorporate the savings plan into the GCBP


Design Gap:


• Develop system design gaps for each major technology and powerpack vs. competitors
  
  Qualifications and Skills:
  
• Minimum qualification is an engineering degree or degree in an equivalent subject
• Previous experience involving the design of electronic products at the system, unit, and
component level
• Knowledge of electronics and microelectronics for ASIC design
• Experience in creating and implementing strategic projects in a commercial environment
• Proven ability to manage teams of people in a distributed framework
• Electronic component and commodity pricing knowledge.
• Experience of commercial sourcing and negotiation processes.
