FMTC is a division of the young Strategic Research Centre Manufacturing with an international team of 35 researchers. Our mission is to strenghten the long-term international competitiveness of the Flemish manufacturing industry by performing industry-driven, pre-competitive, excellent research. In direct collaboration with companies, universities and experts FMTC performs research in the field of mechatronics, where mechanics, electronics and software meet. FMTC is proud of its world premiere: the first badminton robot.
The FMTC research activities are organized in programs: energy efficient electromechanical actuators, smart sensors, self-optimization and model based design.
What are the main responsibilities of a Marie Curie ESR position:
The objective of this work is to develop an approach to model, analyze and optimize the energetic behavior of drive lines of machines. As R&D effort for designing new production machines is typically limited, and much smaller than for example the development effort for a car, detailed models of a machine cannot be made during the design.
As a result, it will also be unfeasible too make very detailed energetic models in an industrial setting. The challenge of this activity is therefore to come to an approach that allows retrieving energetic models with an adequate level of detail efficiently.
It is expected that this modeling, analysis and optimization process will be iterative in nature, meaning that the behavior of very simple models of a drive line will be validated using a limited number of measurements and model refinements are carried out where necessary.
What does FMTC require of a Marie Curie ESR position:
We are seeking an early-stage researcher that holds an Msc degree in Engineering and has less than 4 years of experience. Moreover, candidates should not have resided or carried out her/his main activity in Belgium for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to her/his appointment.
Our offer
We offer a challenging and varied job with a lot of industrial interactions in an informal atmosphere. The activity will be part of a European project on Energy efficiency Management for Vehicles and Machines. A contract of 3 years will be offered. The possibility is offered to pursue a PhD degree on this topic.
