FMTC is a division of the young Strategic Research Centre Manufacturing with an international team of 35 researchers. Our mission is to strenghten the long-term international competitiveness of the Flemish manufacturing industry by performing industry-driven, pre-competitive, excellent research. In direct collaboration with companies, universities and experts FMTC performs research in the field of mechatronics, where mechanics, electronics and software meet. FMTC is proud of its world premiere: the first badminton robot.
The FMTC research activities are organized in programs: energy efficient electromechanical actuators, smart sensors, self-optimization and model based design.
FMTC Flanders' MECHATRONICS Technology Centre vzw (FMTC) is a young research center with an international team of 35 researchers. It was founded by Agoria and leading companies in Flanders. In direct collaboration with partner companies, universities and experts FMTC performs research in the field of mechatronics, where mechanics, electronics and IT meet. FMTC is proud of its world premiere: the first badminton robot. The FMTC research activities are organized in four programs: energy efficient electromechanical drive trains, smart sensors, self-optimization and model based design.
Program smart sensors Given the trend towards machines with more on-board intelligence, more sensors will be integrated in machines. Information from these sensors is used in the machine controllers to improve machine performance and realize autonomous machines. To manage all these sensors, intelligence will be integrated as much as possible in the sensor node itself. Methods need to be developed for optimal processing of sensor signals under varying operating conditions . Furthermore, sensor signals will be optimally combined to maximize the information retrieval from the installed sensor base. For its further growth FMTC is looking for an enthusiastic Mechatronic engineer: intelligent sensor design.
