At Oracle, we have all the resources of a large company. Yet we've managed to retain the creativity, agility and entrepreneurial spirit of a startup. It's what makes Oracle such an exciting place to work. It's also why we're still one of the most innovative and profitable companies in the industry.
With more than 390,000 customers—including 100 of the Fortune 100—and with deployments across a wide variety of industries in more than 145 countries around the globe, Oracle offers an optimized and fully integrated stack of business hardware and software systems.
Oracle engineers hardware and software to work together in the cloud and in your data center–from servers and storage, to database and middleware, through applications. Oracle systems:
• Provide better performance, reliability, security, and flexibility
• Lower the cost and complexity of IT implementation and management
• Deliver greater productivity, agility, and better business intelligence
For customers needing modular solutions, Oracle's open architecture and multiple operating-system options also give customers unmatched benefits from best-of-breed products in every layer of the stack, allowing them to build the best infrastructure for their enterprise.
We deliver the SPARC Hypervisor, the backbone of virtualization on SPARC platforms, which interfaces between Operating System internals and CPU micro-architecture, understanding and using the techniques of both. We also deliver a software simulator called Legion, which is used across the software organization to develop and debug their respective software pieces long before the chip is fabricated and available in the lab. In addition, we are the driving force behind the bringup of new CPUs within the Systems Group. We have an energetic team and infrastructure in place for new professionals to learn these skills.
Do you enjoy being hands on? We are in the lab on day 1 of all the new SPARC CPUs, driving the bringup of firmware, operating system and debug of the new CPU design. In fact, long before hardware is available, our team helps define key CPU architectural changes and software interfaces to drive performance and new functionality in the next generation of SPARC CPU's. Our very in-depth involvement so early the CPU's life cycle makes our team the binding glue between the chip designers and the software community.
At the same time, because the Hypervisor is responsible for virtualizing the system(cpu, memory, IO), we deliver new and exciting virtualization technologies such as Live Migration, IO virtualization, and Dynamic Reconfiguration through world-class coding techniques. Hypervisor being the piece that abstracts the hardware, our developers are perfectly positioned for gaining a deep knowledge in any number of systems technologies such as PCIe, Power Management, Fault Management, Memory Management, just to name a few. In fact, our very dynamic and talented team counts several industry-wide experts in these areas as its members.
Desired Skills & Experience
If you are up for the challenge to work in a fast paced environment and are excited by having the opportunity to dive head-first into areas that require and develop expertise in CPU internals, Operating System internals, system hardware, virtualization, system technologies (PCI-Express, Power Management etc) and you have top notch coding skills to boot, you're looking in the right place.
You will learn and perform these Essential Activities:
